Jay Peak, Vermont, home of Jay Jam, expects around two feet of snow this weekend and is re-opening for this weekend only.

also, mount snow still has some hikeable rails up that will probably be there for a couple more weeks. this is an edit from a week or so ago:

Hmm, for some reason that edit is just showing black for me.

Also, on Vimeo it's saying that was uploaded 11 months ago, looks like that was what they were hiking last year :P

I know around here the lifts are all closed, but there's still a hike accessable park. Probably gonna be out there Saturday.

oh you're right that video is old... saw it posted on newschoolers and assumed it was recent.

Well word on the street is that there is still a lot of snow in the pipe and on inferno, and there are some rails set up.

NO F**KING WAY. Awh shit awh shit awh shit ... TWO FEET?! No damn way! I ain't going for tricks or anything, but $39 for a lift ticket AND lunch, and $69pp/ lift ticket and hotel?!!1?!! That's nuts. Absolutely nuts.

The only reason I don't wanna go is I don't wanna be showed up by fourdown. : P

then again, good chance to test my new Woodies. That sounds so wrong. Oh man ... this is going to ruin all my plans for this weekend. WOO HOO!

Nice. I think I'll be going. Am thinking about staying the night, though I may just stay at my parents' place ... they live about 50 miles south.

Hey, I think there has to be at least two to a room for the $69/pp, but the lady on the phone said 'starting at', which makes me suspicious, but it is cheaper for me to stay at home anyway. $39 DOES include free lunch in the Tower lodge. They've got about 4" on the ground right now, supposed to have 12" by day's end.

CROSS FINGERS. New England weather can be the dumbest thing on the planet sometime.

interesting, so who is gonna hit this up?

koneco
04-27-2010, 05:30 PM
Me, probably. I am aggressive on faster runs, am new to jumping (stunts and such), am at home in moguls and glades, and will be bringing my new Woodies. It's either the Woodies or the ALPs, anyway. If I'm going two days, it'll be Woodies the 1st and ALPs the 2nd. Plus I've got some new boots I've been trying to dial in ... it'll be an interesting day.

I would like to hit it up, but I want to call first and see what will actually be open as far as any park and/or glades. As badly as I want to strap back on my boards seven hours is pretty far for a few groomers. I'm going to call today and post up the details.

I guess I'm the lucky one here. 2 hour 32 minute drive! I will be going both days, most definitely.

I got you beat with a sometimes 1.5hr drive, but usually around 2hrs. I'm a go 1 day at least, just want to see who else might be going when.

I have 3 final papers to do and finals are coming up quick, and my drive would be pushing 6 hours. But those pics are REAALLLY tempting me.

Well they opened up this morning, with only 4 runs...:(

They always have the same 2-4 runs open the last 2 weeks of the year, and they are pretty lame from what I remember. Anyway I imagine this will keep the NY guys away, but is anyone else going to go?

Jason, I'll keep ya posted for SAT. In my case my options are Fri or Sat, but mostly Sat.

The website now says 21/77 trails open.

Dave Bloom
04-29-2010, 11:24 AM
Okay, Jay is out. I called and only groomers will be open. No chutes, no glades, no face, and no park.

koneco
04-29-2010, 12:09 PM
Argh ... lame. I thought Jay claimed to be the skiers' mountain. Attitash is more along those lines, they keep glades open even when when you're shredding in mud. So their website says, anyway, and up until their last day I heard that they left everything open.

Who's with me on making our own mountain?

Dave Bloom
04-29-2010, 12:16 PM
Jay is awesome in season. Gotta love the face and the chutes.

koneco
04-29-2010, 01:05 PM
I've never had the pleasure of going. When I think chute, I think 100+ foot drop, and it scares the crap out of me. I'll have to check it out next year ... I've been having a lot of daydreams lately of hucking huge jumps and cliffs, almost dying on the way down, but somehow landing to the cheers of angels.

Sucks man, I was coming to check in with you just now. I'll put it this way, don't worry about Gas, and the ticket is $39 with lunch. So basically come up with $40 and I'll have you home for dinner! PM me if you can pull it off and we'll co-ordinate.

Whether or not it's gonna be good, I've been watching a lot of skiing videos lately, and I'm already salivating over the next season's possibilities ... I need a fix. Plus, this trip will take me close to my family's house, so ... why not?! They'll need help setting up their home theater : P

I'm in. I hope to be there when it opens. I warn you I'm a bit awkward to talk with, at least at first, and a lot of my stories end with "and yeah!", or silent trail-offs ...

koneco

They open at 8:30, I believe. They also took another two runs off the count, and now we're at 16/77.

EDIT: Okay, maybe 9:30ish. My friend says I owe him coffee. :P

EDIT 7:10 am: Okay, now I'm dragging my ass ... and sorta waiting to see conditions (if the place actually open) ... should be only another 20 minutes or so before we know. Plus, jerks upstairs last night woke me up about nineteen times, and some even had heart to hearts outside my door ... it was seriously funny, but kinda sad. This one dude was, like, sniffling, and the other guy was, like, you're always apologizing! They both sounded wasted/high.

Guy 1: I'm sorry *sniffle*!
Guy 2: Stop apologizing! Don't ask for forgiveness, don't ask for permission ... just do what you want and you'll be happy in life.
Guy 1: I'm sorrrrrry!
Guy 2: *says the same basic thing again*

This kinda goes on for about ten minutes. There were also some girls who were too loud and said dude way too often.

The tables are now covered in food and drinks, and the chairs are filled with people. The patio is dry and that hill is mud. Just mud. That there lift goes to one currently open run and it takes about ninety years to get up.

The other lift led to two mogul-laden runs which became very nice as the sun toasted the ground.

Thanks for coming out ChaseMe! I left about an hour and half after you guys left. My legs kept failing mid-mogul those last few runs.

I don't know about you, but I had a lot of fun and got a lot of sun. Too much sun. It's like I'm back from Florida! Seeya next year. I'll definitely hit up Jay Jam.

Ya man it was great to meet up with you, was well worth the trip for us. I'm quite glad the NY guys didn't come up though, they would have been very disappointed. Love having a sun burn on my neck due to skiing though, since it's usually covered up.
