Ok guys and gals, here's the deal...We lost our home with Ragged Mountain and I went out in search of a new place. I personally met with 11 mountains over the summer months. We were accepted by 1, Crotched Mountain.
Problem...the only day we can do this is on 2/26. This is the beginning day of Shredfest. None of us want to step on each other with meet ups or competitions because it's important to be seen in large numbers, and it's just not cool...!
Our conversation with Crotched was for a 1 day ironman 4 comp event. Lift would cover 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. 2 comps during the day, 2 comps during the night. And then riding for fun til whenever. We can get bunkhouse accommodations 15 minutes away at a 180 bed bunkhouse.
But, our price break is on 30 participants.
I've seen lists and talk to a lot of guys who are going to Shredfest. If our numbers aren't there, it will be too expensive of an event to hold.
I communicated with Pinkkid, thanks for your support!!
Resolve, because there is a large number of you going to Shredfest, how many would attend US Open 2011 if it were to happen...I REALLY NEED TO KNOW...maybe they can both happen.
If we don't get the numbers we'll skip the event this year.
Guys and gals, let me know, post up!!

I'M IN 100%
Shredfest isn't supposed to start until the following day, which is when I will be flying out there. So It is possible for sure for all of the east coasters to do both.

I would be in for sure! I would hate for the US Open to not happen this season. It's been such a good time the past two years.
Hopefully rockstar will be able to hook us up again... If everyone rides as hard as they have in the past, that 16 hour session is gunna kick everyones ass.

I'm 95% in, I wouldn't be there until midnight or later on Friday but that's not a big deal. I need people to ride with me though so I don't fall asleep, I'll be heading across 80, two maybe three people if everyone packs light, and would have to return on Sunday

I should also definitely be attending this as well. Though it is my first season, I am very excited to check this out and see how things work. Should be a lot of fun.

You can count me in for the Open. :) Sounds great! I do hope both events get to occur, though. That would be great for us and for the sport.

Have fun everyone!

As Hersh said last year, it is anyone's decision, other than the pro riders, to rider in any division that they choose. So, no pressure.

seems to me that other then a few memeber of the Revel8 team, there are not many skiboarders who have attended both events.
Dave Bloom
09-21-2010, 01:29 PM
This is true, and some of those members will be attending both regardless of the dates. Not to mention there are new riders wanting to attend pending they can get rides from other veteran riders. Shouldn't be a problem getting the US Open roster to the minimum required amount of attendees.
I would be down for this (Sonja, Sergey too), if the dates are OK - at least - while it is possible to get to Shredfest in Time!

I'm in 100% as well. I'm shooting to do at least a couple days of Shredfest this season, but I have no problem missing the first couple. Plus, I have to support the US Open. I have too many good memories from the last two years.
Talon, count me in for carpool.

I don't see how riders could compete/attend both events without missing something. If you do all of the events at the US Open you will miss the meet and greet and most certainly the first day of riding at Shredfest 3. This is unfortunate.

Ok so it's the only day I have...and I worked hard to find a place. If Shredfest meet and greet is that important and this is going to cause hard feelings I'll cancel the US Open. Things don't always work out. The last thing I want to do is step on another groups toes.
I didn't really have a feel after this thread that there were a lot of east coasters actually going to Shredfest. But it seems I'm mistaken.

Dave Bloom
10-08-2010, 01:29 PM
Is this true, Hersh? If no open this year then why not an east coast shredfest type of event? Openfest? (haha, just throwing it out there). Three days or riding several resorts near each other. You have Killington, Okemo, and Pico near each other. You also have Stratton and Mount Snow that are not too far from each other. If you like shredding you're talking the best terrain parks on the east coast at Snow and Stratton has tons of great glades and last year the best half-pipe in the country. Expand on it and do something big if the US Open definitely doesn't happen.

I'd still like to see the Open take place. I want to go to Shredfest, but I'd rather go to the Open since it's closer and cheaper for me. If I can secure the funds to make it to Shredfest, I can afford to make it to the Open first.
Hershel, give us the minimum number of people you need, and let's see I this wi work. I'm willing to even put a deposit down now for it.

The Meet and Greet is not the issue, it's missing the first day of riding on Sunday. No hard feelings, just logistical stuff that I hope can be worked out.

why dont we find out how many people would be going to the open, and not going to shred fest.

im def not going to shred fest for financial reasons, and would be at the open 100%

I'm with Jason on this one, I loved it last year and would love to see it continue. I, like Jason, can't make it to shredfest this year. So I'm down for as many east coast meets as possible this year.

Meet n Greet is not as important as having the US Open happen. do it. Gotta keep events happening on both sides of our country so folks can get together.
For those there on Saturday in Tahoe, we will still do the meet n greet at Jacks. Sunday we do start skiboarding, but we also ride Mon & Tues and even on Wed there will be folks still there riding together at a resort with Jack, Slow, Wendal and several others. Plenty of time to ride with fellow skiboarders!
The US Open needs to still happen. Riders make your commitments to Hersh and have a blast!
Shredfest will pretty much always be that last weekend if Feb each year withactual riding Sun-Tues and beyond since so many stay longer. Sat will remain the arrival day with meet n greet that evening. Just trying to keep it mainstay event that folks can plan on each year at the same time. We can most certainly make changes if and when need be.
Hersh works very hard to get this going and finding a resort to host it, that's alot of work for someone to do when resorts aren't to favorable to skiboards half the time.
US OPEN CAN HAPPEN and WILL HAPPEN! What do you say Hersh? what do you all say?

maybe just do a more low-key US Open at whatever resort you prefer on whatever day works best for all. I don't think the two events are what are really conflicting... most from East coast really can't afford to come all the way to Tahoe, so... having the US Open.. or some kind of cool Skiboard event... is what they look forward to doing & seeing everyone they can and just riding together and sure, showing off some in friendly competition.... pick a day and resort and keep it simple and low key... it'll work. No stress No hassle this year for it. See how many can go. You have time to figure it out. good luck, I know it can be done.

Our sincerest apologies to everyone. Not only are we going to have to cancel the US Open but we've also decided to take down the skiboardplanet.com website. We'll be finishing up the videos from this year and we'll post them but after that the site will be coming down.
We put a lot of work into trying to make the US Open happen this year. A scheduling conflict with Shredfest III, in which we respect all of our west coasters so much, is only one of the reasons for things not happening for us.
To reschedule takes a lot of work, and quite frankly, I just don't have the time. Both Normand and I are working 7 days a week, yes we created that ourselves, but unfortunately our winter time activities are what's to suffer, including Skiboard Planet and the US Open.
It's certianly not our intentions to post up confusing statements, we at Skiboard Planet do humbly apologize for letting you guys down. I think all of you know we enjoy this event!! And we'll miss the fun this year :(
We're down, but don't count us out all the way...there's still a future in skiboarding...!!
