This video came out in the mid-90s, not too long after Chris Edwards and Arlo Eisenberg pushed the sport into what it started shaping up to be. This was the point where skating had been catapulted onto the international stage's spotlight. Stepping back to make sure the video matured in the right way Top Shelf Films released this great video, which was eventually followed up by a second installment. Today, we know of it as Freestyle Rolling. But, long before anything changed and the world became glued to the screens of watching Shawn White, wearing skinny jeans and skateboarding because everyone else was doing it, putting on tall tees to be just another carbon copy, and all of the rest of action sports had been corrupted by mainstream television's takeover of the X-games, aggressive inline skating was the fastest growing sport in the world, still holding strong on style and individuality. Extreme sports still existed, skateboarding and rollerblading still owned the streets in their purity, the winter Extreme Games still had downhill shovel racing, and the working world still hated those hooligan punks with baggy jeaned, skater-cut haired, 8-wheel bladin' punks.
Notice in this video, way before twin tip skiing started, the word "switch" is used in its original form with its correct meaning, unnatural grind/spinning direction. Just wanted to throw that out there. :)
Skiers/skiboarders, don't forget to thank NYC skater, Ryan Jacklone (FR wheels, K2 skates, Rise Above clothing), for creating the basis of your entire sport in the air. He created the bio spin and the misty flip, two the tricks that all other air tricks since have been based upon through progression.
Enjoy!
