So based on the advice and pointers given on the forum I finally got a pair of aggressive skates. First of all thanks to all of you who have posted about what to look for because it really helped me decide what I wanted to get. I’ve been away from skates for a while and the last time I was on them I kept digging into my heels like they were skiboards and this would of course fling me 90 degrees into fences and whatever else I was near. This was on recreational skates and these are my first aggressive skates so my question is, other than t-stops, what are my options for stopping? Any pointers on doing a hockey stop?

Thanks

i just turn and step sideways, i dont actually skid, or i just grab on to something, or if theres a curb nearby jsut stall the curb to stop.

You can't really hockey stop aggro skates... the only thing is either turn and step or just keep controllin your speed.

Thanks for the responses. I figured I couldn't do the hockey stops but I figured I'd ask. So basically it's just like recreational skates, stop however you can. By turn and step, does that mean a quick turn and hop back to the original direction? Can anyone post a link to a clip to demonstrate this? Appreciate it. Thanks again for the input and I'll keep y'all posted on my medical bills.

www.skatepile.tv you get the thing to come up for you and under comedy there is a little option that tells you hopw to do a hockey stop it is not that it is imppossible just hella hrd and your going to shape your wheels a lot quicker so you will have to rotate em more....

btw what skates you get? i picked up razor cult 4's stock wheels broke up within 2 hours so they are sendin me new wheels.

Thanks for the link.

After much debate I decided to go with the Salomon Vinny Minton's. They had a wide frame, comfortable boot and I got a great deal on them. I'm on a budget and this being my first pair of aggressive skates I figure I'm not going to really know the difference anyway. I haven't had a chance to use them yet but the town skate park and inline hockey rink is almost dried out so any day now.

Thanks again for the input from all of you that post reviews and/or recommendations.

those skates look awesome, the plates are rediculously huge

Yeah, I'm real happy with them. They're very comfortable too. As soon as the inline hockey rink and little skate park in the town dries out, I'm going to go as much as I can right after I drop my girls off at day care in the morning. I'd imagine I'll have the whole place to myself during school hours since it's not too far from the police station.

So I was thinking of getting the Xsjado frames. Being new to aggressive skates is this something I should not be getting? What size wheel should I be using with those frames? I know a lot of this is personal preference but I have the feeling an anti rocker set up is what I want to ride so it seems to make sense to get those frames. Thanks in advance for the help.

sadly for us, the only 2 skateparks with in 20 miles are complete shit. the one out by courtney is 2 metal mini ramps and a metal roller, a metal pyramid and things the locals made. the one in eveleth has a mini ramp, a roller thing to soul (impossible), a like rolling type thing but its just flat down no round thing, and a 3 and a half foot tall long flat rail. gets boring unless ur that good. but im skiboard over skate so im not very good, i can do like grabs and spins up to a 3, grinds including some switchups. so im not very good on skates

no problem in you getting Xsjado frames.... it'll only help you at first. Much easier to learn royales and such grind with a freestyle/anti-rocker setup.

I myself ride Kizer Type-M (wysong) frames which is the same
premise as Xsjado and it rocks! only kizer frames are made out
of UHMW which lasts way longer, slides faster on most
surfaces and also costs more.

as for wheels I'd suggest you get the bigger size you
can get with an anti-rocker setup since you need the most
speed you can get out of the only two wheels you'll have
per frame.

4x4 60mm would be super but I think they're sold out everywhere. so you'd have to go with 58mm wheels.
I personally have Heat Wheels right now and they are lasting
quite well. But just about every company is using the same
molds/urethane so just get whatever is available to you.

hope this helps!

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed to hear. Based on what I've read, I figured it made sense to get that frame and the bigger wheels but I just wanted to make sure. Well, the Gub'r'ment check is on it's way and my kids are well fed so I'm going to give it a try.

if your lookin for a good park and are willing to take a road trip, theres a skate park in Midland Park NJ. They have over 80 ramps and rails, they have a 5 stair, a halfpipe with 4ft, 6ft, 8ft, and 9ft drop in places. its an awesome park for any level and its free. The skateparks website is http://www.sfnj.com if your interested.
