Greetings from Australia.

Chasing some advice on some skiboards for myself for our upcoming season.
I'll give ou a quick run down on my background...
Started snowboarding last year and loved it. Picked it up fairly quickly and spent most weekends of the winter at the local slopes.
A mate has some Snowblades and I had always been curious by them since seeing them years ago and decided that he looked like he was having so much fun that I have to give them a go this year. Skis do not
Interest me really and boarding is fun but i want to be 'different' haha.
So that brings me to this lovely site ;)
Anyway I'm thinking that the R8 Revolts are the way to go for myself... I'm 6' and 175lbs. I like doing a bit of everything but mainly like having fun and not too worried about going super quick and we dont get much fresh untouched powder to ski here so not too worried about that either. Also I don't hit the park that often but want to be able to comfortably do some grinds/jumps eventually.
Now I've never skied before but have a background in ice skating and roller blading and played inline hockey for a while so am confident that my skating skills and balance will be able to help me pick it up quickly.

Now do you think the revolts will be pretty good for what a want to do?
Also my lady wants to give them a go once I get mine as she has a bit of a dodgy knee from years of netball and skis hurt her knee after a while do to turning them due to the length etc. She's about 5'6 and about 150lbs. Will they be reasonably suitable for her to give a shot? She was fairly interested in them so I reckon I'll be buying another set not long afterwards! :)
Sorry for talking so much... Just quite excited and I had 5 months to wait til winter! Lol
Cheers in advance for and advice!

Welcome!
I think your girlfriend will also enjoy the Revolts--she'll find them a breeze to turn after skis. If she wants to try a sub 100 board, the BWPs would be fun for her, too.
Because you're pretty tall, you may want to consider the ALP/DLPs for yourself. They're basically the Revolt 5 cm longer. After trying out several different boards, my husband and I both have settled into our ALPs as our favorite overall boards (we're both 5'10"). Of course, we're mid-40s, so we don't do park or anything...The guys who do that could let you know whether you might want a shorter board for that...

Thanks!
I was eyeing off the BWPs for her aswell. Will see how she finds whatever I end up with.
I may do some reading up on the ALPs too I think and see how I go :)
No doubt I will eventually end up with more than one set in the long run!

Yeah I checked out that table already and that's how I came up with the revolts. The ALPs sound good too after doing a bit of reading about them. I'm really not sure now! :) anything else I should be looking for?

So i'm still tossing up what to buy (i have like 3 months yet so not too stressed)...
Stuck between the ALP with releasables for safety
or KTP with non releasables/perhaps snowboard boots/bindings (these rocker three strap bindings look promising)
Anyway what are peoples thoughts re ALP v KTP? (regardless of binding choices)
The other thing i want to know is if i do ride non release realistically how often are people hurting themselves in them if at all??
I just cant afford the time off work thats all (as i'm sure most ppl cant!)
and my lovely lady is terrified that i'll bust a knee first time out on non release bindings....
(perhaps i sold the spruces to her too well in the first place) :P
also releasables on KTP's ... pointless/ruin perfprmance?
Thanks heaps in advance and i'll stop yapping now and go take my snow gear off (yes i am sitting in my snow gear at the moment in anticipation of the snow in 3 months hahahaha)

I would add some weight to your height / skiboard when deciding on release / non-release.

Welcome Hotmilk & your lady to the life of Skiboarding and the SBOL Forum!:o

That's right, your ski season is coming as our is ending.. sort of! we have TONS of snow still, Mammoth will be going off for 4th of July skier's for sure!

I have ridden non release for years until I broke my leg in them, so now... all release, hubby also decided that'd be best and he was a non release guy as well on the KTP which he loves!

For the both of you, the Revolt would be perfect and with release bindings.
The BWP is a favorite of mine for a true skiboard sub 100cm...it's easy to ride and would be perfect for your lady as well if leery of going too long. NO problem riding them with release either. However, I just thought of something.. her knees... though these skiboards really don't bother knees too much, it will help to go a bit longer for stability and ease. The Spruce 120 is a very relaxed board to ride despite it being 120cm. I dunno, maybe someone with knee issue's can help out! I really dunno.
The ALP/DLP is also a very good board, probably a bit better than the Revolt just due to it's extra 5cm length... every bit helps!!! It's a great all mountain board.
The KTP is wider and ya do need to be a bit more aggressive & weighted to really enjoy it. The KTP goes anywhere for sure but might be hard for your lady to ride... especially with a knee issue. But go release if you have any doubts... there really is no difference and it's WAY easier getting in and out of them by far! I was VERY leery switching to release since I was adamant using non release... no worries! I love and now prefer non release! Of course the receptors are sweet and cool colors to choose from!
I know there are lots of boards to chooses from and it's not easy to decide! Lots of advice too...But maybe pick the graphics you like and go for it! Go with your gut feeling. You'll probably end up buying more boards like most of have!

Again, welcome!

:D thanks heaps for replying!
I think i will just do as you say and go for graphics over anything hahaha
We will eventually be getting a second pair for the other half, and my brother is interested in them too so will prob end up with a different pair as well then we can chop and change and decide whats best hahaha
and yeah release it is i think... i think just for the slight safety bonus it'll be worth it for me in the long run :)
Thanks again for the reply!
