What's your budget?
there is just one good thing about those small cameras - u can bring them with ya ! but all other aspects are bad, ... u will not be able to film good, stable, smooth video..so, i prefer bigger-heavy and in my dreams- 3CCD camcorder!!!

Obviously the more you spend the more you get. The more expensive models are usually crammed with a bunch of features you'll never use anyway so go for lower model numbers. For example my personal camera is a Canon Optura 30. They offer a 40, 50 and so on but the 30 was fairly priced and had more than enough bells and whistles. A good image sensor is clutch though. If you're gonna spend the dough make sure it's worth it because there's a lot of crap out there too. For work it's usually Canons for us but Sony makes some good stuff too.
There's other threads here about this topic too if you want others .02
and - remember - u gonna film skiing - mountain, snow, wind, ...
and some of cameras are bad in these conditions-i think!!!
so, u must buy some which is tested by us...:
Greco is filming on mountain with his cam(i dunno model)
I am filming too and in very extremal conditions and its all ok: my cam: SONY DCR-TRY 240 !!! stability and good price, and this model lets u record from other devices, like TV, PC, other small ..security cams etc.
There is lots of cameras which havent this good shit, so, they just let u get vid FROM camera, but not get IN camera, so, that IN/OUT is very good thing!
Like, i can film some interesting things with that - plugging in small cameras-security-color cameras, i put my big camera in bag, and that small i can put somewhere - even on skiboard, and u can get realy good videos! ;)
Digital 8 or MiniDV !!! they all are cheap now.

look at the type of battery it uses, some batterys cant work past a certain temperature. also, get a stuirdy one, the little ones you usially have to handle with more care. and as the guy said previously, the smaller the camera, the shakier it will look. I have a sony mini dvc touch screen camera. its an ok camera, but its not great because it has a very narrow lense, and buying an add on lense is alot of money. also get a polarized lense because that way the sun wont blind your camera. think this when you buy your camera too. 'if i were to fall with this, aproximatly what would the dammage be?'

i can't stress enough how important it is to have rechargeable batteries. if the camera doesn't come with rechargeables make sure it takes like standard AA batteries and then buy a 1hr charger from anywhere for like $20 bucks. those batteries will last for years and hold a charge like it's nobody's business.
