ok i got bored so i started building a rail for my backyard. i had an old pair of x-country skis that the bases were starting to peel off. so i took the bases off and glued them to the thinner side of a 2X4. then made an sbol stencil. well here is a pic
it is 10ft long and sits about 16in. high

well since i dont have any hills and i am building theese rails i needed to build something. Well here is the basic frame. I still need to support it, plywood it and carpet it. The demensions are 4ft x 4ft flat platform, 8ft high, 4ft x 16ft slope

thats pretty beut make sure you give it loads of support though.

yep...looks like a good start. Use lots of cross members(side up NOT face up..more strength that way)and maybe support the deck a bit more. I think for the carpet thing to work you have to wet the carpet right? So make sure you cover the slope in plastic before laying on the carpet so no water damage occours. I'm sure you already knew that though. Nice job!! Let us know how good it works.

Also....just a thought but you might want to put some stabalizer boards on it to make sure it is stable and doesnt tip over.Sorry for the crude drawing but this is what i mean.

it is pretty stable side to side now but it tries to fold because of no support

You pretty much have to build it like you would a halfpipe for skating. Lots of horrizontal braces(side up)for stability. At the botton and the face. Also run a brace from the top right corner of the back to the bottom left corner of the back. This gives it "triangulation" wich makes it sturdy so it wont collapse. I will try to draw you a picture. It's kinda hard to describe. You actually went the more complicated route for this build.

sounds like fun, but after the 3rd day of hitting it or so ull realize it was hardly worth the work unless u gap it relly far. thats always fun

wow i would not ride down that thing. i know from building ramps to skate that you should of just make a plywood template of the tranny you want (this side of the ramp), and then just add lots of 2x4's cut to the width you want in between the two templates - more stable, easier, and probably cheaper too.

Yup....thats the way you do it. Plywood is strong and it simplifies the whole thing design and build process

i was refering to our park crew and they're only 14 i think and they make the shitties boxes where the slide topsheet tears off and gets very sticky and they never do anything about it.

you wont need a whole lot but if you can do it on a night thats warmish, and pour a lot of water, give it a nite and you'll be set.
