Lexan is very expensive (280.00 for a 6' x 8' sheet). Plexiglass is great though. (and much cheaper) It slides REALLY well and its pretty tough and flexible. Just be sure to countersink all of the holes so that the screw heads go lower than the surface so you don't catch on one of them when sliding. Also...drill VERY SLOWLY!! with the countersink bit and just as slow when screwing it down. Although plexiglass is tough...if you are using a drill to put the screws in it WILL crack if you go too fast as it locks down. Take your time and it will last a long time. If you can... try to get a clear adheasive to brush on after you have pre-drilled all of the holes.Cover the surface (not the plexiglas)entirely with the adhesive and THEN lay the plexiglass on and screw it down. This will help to make sure there are no spaces between the two surfaces. This is not absolutely necessary but I have found that this makes for a sound and virtually indestructable box. The last note...obviously you want it to look cool as well. Put all stickers on first before you put the adhesive and the plexiglass on. Sorry this was a bit long but I hope this helped a bit.
