On behalf of Loken Industries, I would like to make the following announcement.
All obstacles have been cleared, and production of the Loken Industries skiboards for 05/06 winter season has now started. The skiboards of norwegian company Loken Industries have been under development since the year 2000, with the first prototype ready the following year. The efforts to construct the best skiboards available, is now coming to fruition.
The 05/06-lineup consists of four models and should be ready for sale well in time for the upcoming winter season. They will include such features as standard 4-hole binding patterns, polylaminated wood-cores, extruded bases and cap construction. All skiboards are constructed symmetricaly.
These are the four models:
"Apetorch"
Length: 97.5 cm
Tip/tail: 13.8 cm
Waist: 10.8 cm
"El Bajong Freeride" (limited edition)
Length: 99.5 cm
Tip/tail: 15 cm
Waist: 11.5 cm
"Cruise Tool Eight" (CTVIII)
Length: 99.5 cm
Tip/tail: 15 cm
Waist: 11.5 cm
"AERO"
Length: 94.5 cm
Tip/tail: 13.8 cm
Waist: 10.8 cm

Those look really sweet. I love the graphics, especially on the ApeTorch ones. Also, the Norwegian flag in the logo is a nice touch.

"Apetorch" or "Aero" would probably be your choice then. They are more aimed at park-riding than "El Bajong" or "CTVIII", which are all mountain boards.

I like the El Bajongs as well. By they way, what/who is El Bajong?
What's the difference between those and the ct8?

tupacalive35:
One of the goals of Loken is to aid in the development of skiboarding equipment and the sport in general. Bindings is a natural part of this, and we are looking into the possibility of making skiboard bindings for next season (06/07), or later.
cmbruin:
El Bajong is my nickname. It was occationaly used by a reporter in Norwegian Radio, and I picked it up from him. As it turned out, he had himself got the name from an obscure Norwegian pop-song from the 60's, about some mysterious latino-lover named "El Bajong". I do not now much more about the roots of the name, but I do know that there is a town in Gambia called "Bajong Koto", a few villages in Indonesia have Bajong in their name, and there is allso a Belgian carpet-company named "Bajong Carpets". This is all very interesting ;)
The reason for me getting a "signature skiboard" is that I did some small, but, as it turned out, very significant favors for Loken that more or less secured the financing of the company. I've been skiboarding since '99, but never really got into doing tricks and such, but I LOVE going off-piste in powder snow. Ola Loken knew this, and decided to make an "El Bajong Freeride" skiboard, as a way of thanking me, and to pay tribute to powder skiboarding.
The "El Bajong" and "Cruise Tool VIII" are in most respects the same skiboards, but they have very different graphics. The "El Bajong" is regarded as a tribute to a more relaxed style of skiboarding, and as a collectors item. Therefore, it is only being made in very small numbers (apx. 30 pairs).

Are the Loken's measured tip-to-tip across the top, or are they measured around the base? Just curious as I think about where to spend my money next.

ok this is a pretty noob question..
i know that park boards handle awesome on ramps and rails.. but what about all mountain? does it meen great handling wherever you go including the park?
because i'm more of a do everything from the moguls and black diamonds to tree skiing to the park
What would be my best bet from Loken?

Most boards are all mountain unless you go really short like under 90cm. I have ridden double blacks at Mammoth with my Five-o's and not had a problem. Anything longer than 90cm will be perfect for all mountain for sure.

Are they really extruded bases?!
Sintered bases hold more wax. Was the decision to use extruded bases for the reason of base graphics to be possible?

I've talked to Ola and I have some answers to your latest questions.
Sb_Bob: They are meassured around the base.
Ian129: Its hard to recomend which would be best for you without knowing how you usually ride. If you like to go a bit everywhere, El Bajong/CT8 is probably your best choice, but Its really all up to you. Go with the one you like the best. I cant really say much about the price, as this is largely up to the retailers to decide.
Allz: The El Bajong/CT8 is 39 mm high at the tips, while the Apetorch is 46 mm high.
Gargantula: The choice to use extruded bases for the Loken skiboards was made due to the fact that sintered bases are a lot more expensive, and they would raise the prise of the final product by 20-25%. A price increase that big was hard to defend based only on the fact that sintered bases take up
more wax than extruded bases. The bases are black, because black bases quite simply are the fastest.
