Hey everybody.

I am looking for opinions about which skiboards my Grandma should buy. She is 70 years old but really active for her age and in pretty much perfect health. She's about 5'6" tall. We normally ski at Arapahoe Basin in Colorado and she feels comfortable skiing the blues and some mild moguls, but isn't looking to do much beyond that and certainly isn't going in the terrain park. She normally skis on 150s, but last year she tried my old Salomon snowblades (I now ski on BWP skiboards and couldn't be happier by the way) and she liked it quite a lot. She didn't mind working the nonreleasable bindings on the snowblades, but she thinks she would like releasable bindings just for the safety factor because she is older and maybe doesn't have as strong legs as someone younger. She was looking at getting the Rumspringa because they have less width to them, but I don't know if those would be right for her because the main complaint she had about the snowblades was that they have some chatter to them and I found that the chatter was completely gone with my BWPs when I switched to them. I very much appreciate any thoughts y'all have about what would be best for her and thank you in advance for your comments.

The chatter usually comes from softer boards on some harder or choppier snow. Due to the shorter length a softer skiboard will have more chatter because a softer ski has so much more surface area to move that it can't quite flex high enough to notice the chatter from slapping. That being said I ride Revolts (105cm) and Brandon Enough rides DLPs (110cm) with little to no chatter at A-Basin, Keystone, and Breck. It really is based on the snow itself as well as how your bindings are positioned. If you ride with them set back you will have more pressure which will eliminate much of the possibility for chatter. Typically, and especially with last season, Summit County's snow is much softer than other places in the country so she should be fine with any of the boards. For her I would stay away from Condors or KTPs because they are much wider than the rest of the boards and will be a bit harsher on her knees. With the amount of powder that A-Basin receives I would suggest nothing short than 98cm boards. The Rumspringas work better on groomed trails. If that is what she primarily rides than she will be fine with that choice. If she wants a little more float I would suggest the 105cm Revolts. If the two of you are interested in meeting up to try some boards out feel free to contact me. This season there will be three Revel8 riders here in Summit County.

I second the 105 Revolts for her.

I am trying to stay a youngster, but the aches and pains remind me otherwise. LOL
