Anyone ever try snowboard boots on Skiboards? I know I've seen the set up but I haven't met or talked to anyone who actually tried this. Thoughts?

i talked with someone i met at my mountain who set snowboard bindings and boots up on his skiboards. he says its more comforatble and makes a more coushioned landing. he also said it feels more like skiboarding in skate shoes than boots.

i dont think snowboard boots are a good idea for skiboards because since snowboard boots are looser there is more of a chance to injure your ankels and knees. also snowboard boots are bulkier than skiboots so id immagine the boots would be annoying in the beginning

Thanks for the reply. The flex of the boot is sort of what's piques my interest. But yeah, that flex is also a potential ankle mangler. Guess we'll see when the snow comes!

I had a pair rigged with snowboard boots for a while. For all mountain use, they were just awful. The bindings dont give you nearly the same feel as you would have with ski boots. The ride seems really loose and swirley. I mainly used them so i could try some soul stuff in the street. They worked pretty decent for that, but if i had a wider binding base, it would have been a lot better.

I also tried a pair of skate boots with an adapter I made for the bindings. This one failed even more because skates don't offer any of the necessary support for skiboarding.

Miller, who made the z interface, also made a releasable snowboard binding. I used them for one season. The snowboard boots were a lot more comfortable, however there is no ankle support, so when you try to carve a turn the skiboard wobbles. You can not get a solid edge.

Would it just be a matter of finding a boot with stiffness on the sides? As long as it was rigid on turns it may be ok? Is the consensus though to just not waste my time?

Snowboard boots just don't offer enough support side to side. Notice even soft shell skiboots are soft everywhere except the sides at the ankle and leg. You need that stiffness on either side of your foot to be able to hold an edge properly. I hope someday they will create a super soft boot that feels more like a comfortable shoe with the proper support.

That's why I'm curious about the snowboard boots as an option. I have a pair of old Van's boots that are pretty rigid which is what got me thinking about it. Maybe just firming up the sides of an already stiff boot. I guess we just need some snow now, eh?

Oh man..you aint kiddin. I am jonesing for snow so bad. I am having a showing of white dwarf this weekend to feed my craving for snow.

So how would you stiffen up the sides of your boots?

Haven't given it much thought yet. Maybe some type of metal inserts for the sides? How about some type of medical ankle strap that provides the flex needed to the ankle but stiff on the sides. Of course that probably negates the whole point of the flex in the snowboard boot. Gonna have to go MacGyver on it and cross my fingers.

you also gotta consider forward lean. If i started forward while riding fakie, it was all over. That could have been partially to blame the crappy snowboard bindings i have, but i dont know if others would help prevent that or not.

I'm wondering about a step in then. Forgot about the fact the back of the boot stays rigid. I'm too old to be experimenting with this crap anyway! A broken anything is just what I need with two kids. We'll see though. Thanks for all the input/suggestions.
