View Full Version : Midwest Meet 2012

The third annual Midwest Meet will once again be held at Mount Bohemia, MI (in the Upper Peninsula)
Bohemia's Website: http://mtbohemia.com/
http://www.mtbohemia.com/Images/trail-map-sm.jpg
"Mount Bohemia has the longest runs with the highest vertical and deepest powder in the Midwest. Bohemia is all-natural, and has no problem without snow guns. The average snowfall in the Keweenaw is 273 inches. The lake effect snow is dry similar to western resorts and accumulates as powder which is untouched because we do not groom. Bohemia's two new sections; the Outer limits has 100+ acres of inbounds backcountry skiing with 17 new runs even longer and trickier than before."
When?
Last year the Midwest Meet was held January 22-24th. The weather was cold, but the backcountry riding kept us plenty warm. Conditions were perfect, and we found a ton of untouched powder.
Based on the poll results we will have the 2012 Midwest Meet from January 20 - 22.
Lodging
Each year we reserve cabins at the base of the mountain. Each cabin has a bathroom and sleeps four (two bunkbeds). These have worked out well and were very affordable.
Below is a 'buy now' button to pay for your lodging. You can either do it that way or Paypal Andrew Deehr (adeehr) the $86.30 directly for lodging to: altrealitygames@yahoo.com Please include your forum name in the payment so Andrew can make sure he has the right person. We know most of your real names, but want to make sure we mark the right people paid.
Again we are requesting more than may be needed, so we may have a refund/I'll buy food option ahead of us.

I am of course a definite again. I would prefer the 1/20-22 weekend simply because it gives me a whole month before ShredFest IV. This worked very well last season. Speaking of ShredFest, I'm very interested in hitting Bohemia after Tahoe this time. I would have loved to do it las time, but my schedule was too set. Marshall may also be able to do this.
As far as travel to the Midwest Meet itself, I'd like to fly in and catch a ride with you as opposed to driving the whole way out again. This may change if more east coast riders decide to come out, and we can get a good carpool set up. For now though, I'll plan to fly in.
Courtney

Awesome, we're glad you'll be able to make it Tim. I'd love to make it back to Bohemia as well. I agree on the date of Jan 20 - 22. Last year that ended up being a really great time to go, and the extra space from Shredfest is definitely a plus.

I'm in. Definite. Anyone that want's to carpool from Detroit to Bohemia. The plan right now is to leave 6AM on Friday, this could change and I could be staying in Houghton Thursday night into Friday, especially if the roads are a little snowy. In that case I would be leaving around Thursday Morning 8 or 9AM, anyone who wants to is welcome to stay at my place, I have extra sleeping arrangements and I'm a half hour away from metro. I'll have my blazer and I can do the Sat. night drive from Bohemia to dinner again.

Of course I'm in too. When we have dates we can look at airfare to different locations to see the best price with drivers en route. I am not cooking for everyone at every meal this year....because I need to ride this year. Knee feels mostly better so I won't hold out this winter. I still plan to grill Friday night.

Yea the closest airport to me on the way is Green Bay. I can't imagine you'd get to it early enough in the am for me to pick you up and still make it to the hill with day light, then again I have been wrong before....I just can't remember when...

It's hard for me to plan that far ahead, but I really want to attend. If I do, I'll make sure to rest up this time and not overdue it before I get there. I imagine I'll hit up a couple other U.P. hills beforehand, take a day off to rest, and then be at Bohemia first thing Friday morning to ride. I hope we have another winter season with plenty of snow, just like last year's.

We'll keep the attendance list as accurate as possible. We should have plenty of room for everyone between car pools and airport pick ups, but if you have any concerns over transportation, please feel free to contact us. We will find a way to get you there :)

How many people do we need to book a yurt? I know we had discussed that a bit last time. If we can get enough confirmed people, it would be cool to all be in one place.

The yurts are definitely a possibility. Each yurt sleeps 10 at a rate of $190 / night. The cabins sleep 4 at a rate of $115 / night.
The cabins provide more bathrooms (1 for every 4 people vs 1 for every 10 people), so that comes in handy after riding when everyone wants to shower.

Yeah I would definitely like to keep with the cabins, they are a whole heck of a lot more like a badass vacation :) and if some people decide to stay up later than others we can. I know last year when we all wanted to be in once place inside we just went to the main cabin.

That's a good point. Having a quieter cabin is a big advantage for those who prefer to go to sleep earlier. I was also wondering about the heat in the yurts. They're a lot bigger and less insulated, so they might get kind of chilly in January. I know we got pretty cold one of the nights in the cabins even with the heat on, and they have a lot thicker walls than the yurts.

We're going to have to divvy out Dennis' responsibilities. Someone be on Dennis duty and keep track of him so he doesn't lose himself. Someone take his boarding pass as soon as they see him. In fact I'll make a checklist for morning noon and night to make sure we haven't lost anything. Cell phone, house key, skiboards etc.
Hrmm I haven't made any new flashlight purchases recently...My birthday is Jan.30th, maybe we can have my b-day party up there? :D

Hey everyone, just a quick update:
- Our dates will officially be January 20 - 22 (Friday - Sunday).
- We'll also be making event t-shirts like we did the first year.
If you have any questions feel free to post them here or message me directly. We should have plenty of carpool and airport pick up options available, so we'll work with you to make sure you get there. We also try to keep this event as low cost as possible so more people can make it. Pricing for the cabins will be announced once we get closer to the date.

FYI There was a change to their lodging policy between last year and this. I've pasted it below. What it means for us? I will only be reserving two cabins to begin with since we know we'll have more than 4 for sure, but less than 9. If we get say 10 solid I'd be ok with getting another cabin, but I don't want to be out $115 if two people bail. So for now I'll reserve two cabins. I think this year we also need to really look at the Yurts when we are there. That way we know for the future if we should reserve one of them.
All Bohemia lodging has access to activity building which includes couches, a fireplace, TV and small cooking area.

Ok cabins 3 and 4 are reserved. The way it looks and from the sounds of the conversation with the lady at Bohemia they are reserving cabins by number this year, NOT by just you want two cabins. So 3/4 are the ones to the left of the main lodge cabin that some of us were in last year. It's the second set of cabins from the entrance. If we need more space because we have more than 8 we'll cross that path at that time, but for now we are going with these.
I don't want to change any reservations because they charge the first nights stay up front already for each cabin and $25 to change. So these two are set in stone!! Jan 20-22 Bohemia here we come!
86.30 is the total per person including tax and paypal fees. I'll collect it as we get closer to the date. Keep in mind if we have more then 3 per cabin we will have extra cash, if we have less I will need to request a few more dollars once we get to Bohemia. Thanks!

Right now we are sitting at the edge of having too many people for too few cabins. As of now, I still plan on collecting like I did last year, with the plan of 3 per cabin. If we have 4 per cabin obviously we'll have some money left over. Can do food again (I'm riding and not cooking all weekend this year) or we can do a refund or heck if we have enough per person we can do fish n chips and I'll collect the tab!
Anyway plan on having $86.30 to me sometime in November/December to confirm you are coming. If we have more than 8 I'll call Bohemia and reserve a 3rd cabin (If there is space). If they don't have any more room someone may have to bunk in the shared yurt. We'll cross that path when we get there.
I'll put up a link to pay for lodging mid-November.

That'd be totally cool. Right now the plan is to leave around 4am Friday to arrive around opening time Friday morning. I plan to work on Thursday til 3pm, then I'd be available to pick people up at the airport. You guys are welcome to crash on my couch / floor as long as cats don't bother you so we can all get some rest before we hit the road.
On the way back we'll leave Sunday around 5PM, and we'll probably get back into Minneapolis around midnight / 1AM. I'll be taking Monday off and will be available to bring you guys to the airport whenever.
As long as no one brings a ridiculous amount of stuff, we should have enough room for the 4 of us. Take a look at flights and let us know Dennis. MSP is the airport code. The main terminal is called terminal 1 and terminal 2 is a little smaller but still pretty major.

So, it looks like Courtney's vehicle will be full, so what will your route be, Andrew? I'll try to get a flight into an airport on your way.

Win. The $99 season pass sale does require $1 for each day you ride. Unlike most mountains that give you a plastic card for a season pass, Bohemia requires to you pick up a lift ticket each day at the cost of $1.

Yup, looks like I'm most likely full.
I believe the closest major airport to Andrew is Green Bay (50 miles north and on the way to Bohemia). You'd have the shortest car ride with Andrew too at about 5hrs.

Tim if you fly into Milwaukee thursday night I can come pick you up there, it's only about an hour from my house, i would have no issues picking you up there, as long as your arrival is after say 6pm, or if it's earlier you can enjoy the Milwaukee airport and all it's lovely....seats! I just have to be here for when my daughter gets home until my wife gets home so i can leave, and she gets home about 5pm. After that I can come get you, we'll leave around 8am Friday as I have to take my daughter to school in the am.
And yes, Nolan Tim and Courtney I have your lodging payments, looks like Cabin 1 is full! :)

Ok, I'll take you up on that. I just booked a roundtrip to Milwaukee with Southwest. I arrive Thursday at 8:30pm, which means I don't have to take off work(a definite plus). My departure to return home is Monday around noon, so you can just drop me off whenever it is convenient in the morning.
I'll be grabbing my season pass on Saturday, and after that it's just eight weeks of anticipation.

I've planning on driving to Mount Bohemia sometime in January. After seeing this meetup I gotta go to it. I've never skied with people from SBOL. This looks like a great opportunity to ski among the trees with other skiboard fans. I'll probably stay in the Hostel yurt so don't worry about housing me. I'll arrive Thursday night, leave Sunday afternoon. I live near South Bend, Indiana if anyone wants to ride with me.

Right on! It'd be great to have you aboard! The more skiboarders the better! Hopefully you can make it, it's a great time, this is our third year! Make sure you are in shape a bit too. You should be able to get by, but depending on how much snow there is you may want to try something longer / wider. At times you may want or need some extra float.
I'd highly encourage everyone to bring a back up pair of boards if they have some. We've had some battle wounds these past couple years.

Nick, if you could bring those Revolts that would be super. If you want to put a pair of bindings on it's up to you because I also have an extra pair of bindings.
That reminds me I need to try and straiten the front bail on my Extreme II's. (I bent it when I hit a rail hard and cart wheeled)

+1 on that, although I think my boards sustained s bit more than just battle wounds last time. It was more like the KTP's were crushed, and the Condor was eviscerated.

Tim, Courtney, Andrew - We're such a consistent group :) I call top bunk next to door again!
Maverick - Red or Black?
New guy - The cabins are an awesome feature up in such a desolate place, I would recommend coughing up the $80 for two nights...$40 a night isn't bad at all!
Dennis - We need you! but bring superglue so we can stick all your valuables to your body
I've been getting to the gym pretty consistently so I'm hoping I'll be good to go once I get to the mountain. I'm going up Friday morning to ski if the conditions are good otherwise I'll just wait. I started at 250 looking to lose 30lbs but after working out I just f***ing gained 30lbs so I'm really hoping the KTPs can hold up with 40 more pounds on them. I was looking at yearly snow trends and the snowfall has been increasing so we should be in for an even better season than last. We had perfect timing with the storm that hit though.
Is anyone bringing a vehicle that can fit more than 6 people?

Yeah, Greco hooked me up with a spare Condor, and I went ahead and bought another pair of KTP's. I also got the new rockered Condors, so that's what I'm planning to ride.
The KTP's can definitely take some getting used to with the extra stiffness, but I think you'll like them once you get the feel dialed in. If you want to try something different, though, I'll be bringing a fee extra sets of boards. You are welcome to try the Condors for a max-float experience.

What's new this year:
Mount Bohemia will be opening a bar and restaurant this season. This will be a new yurt which is connected to the existing base yurts and will be offering breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Ski guide service-Helping you locate the hidden runs throughout the mountain and showing you tips and trips to navigate Bohemia and the backcountry.
A new backcountry run which will be one of the steepest, longest backcountry runs on the mountain.

We're still planning the traditional trip to Hougton Sat, right?
In a way that addition saddens me. One of the things I love about Bohemia is how un-resortish it is. I liked the fact that there wasn't much there. I suppose it was bound to happen eventually. The mountain can't stay a secret forever. Hopefully the character of the mountain itself with the sparse ungroomed trails and secluded feel will remain intact.

I agree, but I think they'll still have the same feel. They're so far out there that it would take a lot for it to feel more like a commercial resort. Although the new services may attract some more people, it won't be turning into Vail anytime soon.

12-19-2011, 08:43 PM
Hey everyone, here's a shirt update.
We can definitely add a simple skiboarder silhouette to the mix.
Since we're on a pretty tight deadline we'll be using digital direct to garment printing. This is the same process we used the first year and they seemed to last pretty well.
Since we're doing digital printing each shirt doesn't have to be exactly the same. I'll post up a couple design options tomorrow for everyone to look at. From there each person can pick a design, shirt color, shirt type (long or short sleeve), and whether they'd like it printed on the front, back, or both. Printing on 1 side costs the same price no matter whether you want the design on the front or back.

Awesome, I do love customized shirts. The ones I have from the first year have held up quite well.
As an aside, I've decided not to attend ShredFest this year due to financial constraints. While that does seriously bum me out, it also makes me want to return to Bohemia all the more. So, I'm throwing this out there already; the unofficial Midwest Meet part two will most likely happen within a couple weekends after ShredFest. A more definite date can be ironed out at the official Midwest Meet one month from now. I know Courtney and Marshall have shown interest in this already, and I encourage any other of the January attendees to seriously consider it. If you've taken advantage of the season pass already, all you'll need to budget for is travel, food, and lodging. Also, I thought Bohemia was a blast in spring conditions, despite the sometimes scarce snow coverage.

It'd be great if you wouldn't mind bringing it along.
As far as the no snow situation..
We were in the same situation last year and considered changing the date, but then Bohemia got slammed. Due to the hill's location on the peninsula they get lake effect snow from both directions, so when it snows there it really snows there. We'll continue to closely monitor the weather, but I think we should be ok. They should be getting dumped on at least once within the next 25 days or so.
Today they're calling for at least 1-2 inches, but it looks like it could bring a lot more depending on how fast this storm is moving.

Here's the update from Mount Bohemia's website:
"UPDATE: DECEMBER 31 AT 10AM
GOOD NEWS
There is a possible significant snow event for Sunday into Tuesday with possible significant accumulations. If this was a strong enough event Mount Bohemia could be close to opening. There is second lake effect event forcasted for the weekend of Jan 6-8th. As of right now based on the current forcast we are forcasting opening somewhere between Jan 6th and Jan 13th.
Please note as with all forcasts this one could be wrong so please check this website before heading up

Hey everyone, here are a few updates and reminders for the trip:
Snow update:
Bohemia will be opening Saturday with early season conditions. There's still plenty of time for them to get hit with another strong storm or two, so by the time we get there conditions should be pretty good.
Stuff you need to bring:
A towel, soap, shampoo
Multiple different layers (it could be cold, but you get hot riding powder)
Boots, boards, bindings
Gloves / Mittens
Goggles
Helmet
Jacket + pants
Something to cover your face
Stuff we recommend you bring:
A back up set of boards
A camel back if you have one
Cameras, video cameras
Other stuff to keep in mind:
A fresh coat of wax will be very important. I'll bring wax and an iron, but it would be best if your gear was waxed for riding on Friday.
If you have a helmet, wear it. If not, consider picking one up. Riding trees can be unpredictable.
Pillows and blankets are provided in the cabins, but the blankets aren't the warmest. If you get cold at night it would be a good idea to bring a sleeping bag.
adeehr
01-05-2012, 09:38 AM
As of right now we have 6 confirmed for the cabins, so the cabins are square. We do have room for two more, but Nick has indicated he wanted one of the spots but hasn't reserved it yet. Tyler if you want a spot in the cabins let me know, as of now there are 8 coming including you which would fill up the cabins nicely!

One of the downsides of flying out will be my inability to bring all the stuff I did last time. I will have extra boards though.

Yes, I plan to ship the boards the preceding weekend, so they are sure to get to you in time.
Also, I forgot to mention that I picked up a GoPro HD recently, so we'll have more filming options.
Courtney
01-07-2012, 11:45 AM
Awesome! Sounds like we'll have 3 cameras: 2 GoPros and 1 Contour.
I'll bring a computer we can dump everything on and watch the footage. If people want to bring hard drives we can send everyone home with copies of all the files too.

Andrew,

I'm not sure what size shoe you wear, but I'll have size 13 boots that I'll be using in case anyone else wants to try it out. I bought the absolute stiffest snowboard boots I could find, the Atomic Tremor boots. Stiff rating of 10 on a 10 scale. I put them on and can't get the things off they are so tight, so at least I know I'll feel safe around the ankles. Plus the bindings are built very strong so I think that'll help support.
Knowing us (and Tim) we'll probably have a good hour or two discussion on these bindings inbetween runs or in the evening, it's bound to happen!

What's that supposed to mean?!
But seriously, I'm stoked so see these things in person. I'd be considering them myself if I didn't already have too much invested in my Track 225/Bomber setup.
As far as days on the snow go, I've also had zero. I am planning on getting out somewhere (anywhere) this weekend, but that'll be it. I've also spent the last four months sitting at a desk thanks to my new position, so I'm severely out of shape. I'm pretty much betting everything on Jack's opinion of the magic rockered Condors to get me through the meet this year.

If we want to get there around noon that means Nick and I need to get to Andrew's house around 6 or 6:30am.
From my aunts house to Andrew's house is 60 miles so it should be a little under a 1.5 hour drive. So if Nick gets to my aunts about 4:45 or 5am that could get us to the mountain by about noon, weather permitting. That would mean Nick would leave his house in Waukesha at about 4am. :( I hope he's ok with that.

Don't feel any pressure to rush on my account. I'm feeing it a bit in my lower back and legs after just five hours at the local mountain, so even two days at Bohemia should be plenty. I call back of the pack with Andrew.

Just some last minute things to remember...
*Bring A Pillow
*Bring A towel, body soap, hand soap, shampoo & all toiletries.
*Bring Extra comforter if you get cold easy
*Bring Flashlights ;)
*Bring two-way radios for comms on the hill
*Bring power strips to accommodate your gear
*Cameras, video cameras, hard drives & extra memory
*Bring $1 Cash for each day you plan to ride if you have a season pass.
*FILL YOUR GAS TANK ALL THE WAY and go shopping @ the Wally-World/Econo Foods in Houghton
*Remember where you left your keys, cell phone and wallet at all times.
*There is no cell service at the base of the hill. I will have 1 two way radio on channel 8
*There is great cell service at the top of the hill, you just have to be able to ski down.
*I will have my laptop with skype/email/facebook for the people you aren't bringing technology to let their family know they haven't run into a tree or plummeted to their death. The internet is not that great up there though so don't count on it working.
Places:
If you're looking for food or pop I would suggest going to Econo-food which is right across the road from walmart, they are usually always cheaper.
1000 W Sharon Ave Houghton, MI 49931
As for outdoor gear Down Wind Sports is about the only place you're going to get good service, you could go to Mount Ripley but they aren't that great.
308 Shelden Ave Houghton, MI 49931
Bear Belly Bar & Grill is the Gas Station/7-11/Burger Bar 5 min. from Bohemia. Burgers and fries are about $6-$8
11627 Superior Street, Lac La Belle, MI 49950
The only big name bank you'll find up there is a Wells Fargo, other than that ATM's are few and far between, stock up when you get to Houghton.
Ski Gear:
*Helmet (This is a must)
*Multiple different layers (it could be cold, but you get hot riding powder)
*A camel back is a good idea
*Boots, boards, bindings & spare boards
*Gloves / Mittens
*Goggles - No night skiing
*Jacket + pants
*Something to cover your face
*Hand Warmers/Feet Warmers
*Chap stick
********* BOHEMIA TREASURE MAP *********
A1/A2 - A1) Off the lift by the base you go around the drop off of the other lift to get to the Haunted Valley Section of the Map. Altho it looks like individual cleared Glades its basically an entire nice wide section where the little stuff is cleared out. Medium thickness of trees, and if you head hard left its one "trail name" a little less left is another the middle is a third and so on. so basically wherever you enter the woods its a different '"trail". All these woods filter and end up on a actual cleared trail that will bring you back round to the other side of the mountain at point A2. The trail the woods filter to is pretty flat so some pushing is likely going on.
B) Off the main lift left and between one of the few blue trails on the right "Phoenix" I believe is the name and the back to the left are some good fairly wide open woods with a bunch of smaller drops, cliffs, and natural features.
C) Just under and right of the Main lift are some nice dense woods that Dennis and i found a really nice broken tree that we used as a kicker/ up-rail thingy. Probably rose almost 5 feet at the tall end. A few other small drops here. Pretty steep sections as well.
D) Off main lift right hand u-turn. follow trail maybe 100m and then duck into the woodsas soon as they start to clear out a little. We actually had to duck under a branch and up a hill so we had to carry speed and it was a tight fit. But worth it. There was a phenominal 12-15ft drop (approx at the hash mark) after about 50m. just enough room to get some speed and drop it. landing a bit tight with trees so make sure you step to the edge and plan out your line before dropping. After the big rock it is fairly smooth and steep. and medium thickness with the trees.
E) X Doesn't mean don't go there just means they weren't open when we went so i have no idea. If you ride these i Guess you can either shuffle on a flat 'trail' thing to the second lift or you can drop down to the road and the roving Bohemia buss will pick you up and take you back to the lift. it just makes laps up and down that road all day,
F) ALL these trails were awesome. Just be careful. No grooming so there are quite a few things that you wont normally come across at your regular resorts. But they were all fairly steep in places and you can pop in and out of the woods along most of them. Just be careful there are a couple of ravines you don't want to get stuck down in. Also there wasn't as much snow when we went as now but some of the drainage ditches going perpendicular to the trail were pretty severe ( this actually goes for all cleared out trails) and if your not careful, or if you want them to they will throw you 10-15 feet. When we went you could hit these and get air and land in the snow however you wanted and not feel it. Just scope it out before hand.
You might see me do a Nolan this year...
The Nolan: Traversing down a slope wearing skiboards, but without utilizing them. Generally the stomach or back are substituted as the sliding surface. See also "Shamu impersonation"

Lol, I guess we'll have to nominate someone new this year. Of course, I could just yell grossly inaccurate directions from the back of the pack too. We have to hit at least a couple flats spot purely for tradition's sake. I mean really, what's a Midwest Meet without a little cross-country skiboarding?
Enjoy your weekend and be safe everyone. We expect to see a lot of posted pictures and video! :D

Nolan, Andrew, Nick, Tyler & Tim, should we plan to meet you all at the bottom of the main lift around 12:30? If we don't see you guys by then we can try again at 1:00.

Since I stupidly didn't buy a season pass I will probably skip Friday riding, and it sounds like we will be arriving around 1pm or so. They added a new 'luxury' yurt this year that sleeps 13 it says. I want to check that out as the price is $5 cheaper per night than renting 2 cabins. So next year we may be able to do that instead of cabins and we could welcome in more people and drive the price down. Gotta think ahead!

Hey Tim, I could make it out the weekend of the 25th and 26th. I'd probably have to start driving after leaving work on Friday around 3, arrive in the area around 11 PM or midnight, ride Saturday & Sunday, then leave right after riding Sunday to be back at work Monday to give a week long training.
Would this work with anyone else? Obviously not good timing for anyone traveling to Shredfest.
I could fit 3 in my car if we pack light. I could pick people up at MSP if you can get a flight that arrives before 3pm on Friday the 24th and leaves around 1 or 2am Monday the 27th.

I'll be keeping an eye out for flights into Milwaukee or MSP on Friday. I'm thinking stay in Houghton Friday night and then hit Bohemia Sat/Sun. Hopefully, that'll be enough time for everyone to plan.

It's amazing how much of a difference there is in flight costs to different airports. It's about $50 more each way to fly to MSP, so I'm looking at Milwaukee again. I can get a flight in Friday morning and then a return flight Monday morning. It'll be about $40 more than my last round trip, but that's still a really good deal considering current air fairs. Nick, let me know if that will work for you. I'll have to wait until my next paycheck to book the flights anyway, so that'll be this coming Tuesday at the earliest. After I'm confirmed on flights, I'll look into booking a cabin for Saturday night.

I'm down for packing into a hotel room to keep costs low for everyone on Friday night. I have a sleeping bag and would be totally fine on the floor. Anyone else?
I just looked at Bohemia's website for available lodging and it looks like they only have space in their hostel available for that weekend. Cost is only $20 a bed and right now all 14 beds in the hostel yurt are available. While we'd likely be sharing the space with people we don't know, this might be our only nearby affordable option. If we decide to go this route they require you to bring your own linens or sleeping bags and towels.

That would be nice to stay in Houghton on Friday night because they actually have places to eat with real food.

Good catch. I would assume for the hostel that it isn't enforced or doesn't apply. That may have been why the only results that showed were hostel beds when I selected only Saturday night.

Ok, I've been busy with work, so I'm a bit behind on the posts.
Lodging: I vote for a hotel room in Houghton for both Friday and Saturday nights. I'm not so keen on the Yurt if we have no idea who we'll be sharing with, plus I'm not in a position to bring bedding etc since I'm flying in. A few positives for staying in Houghton; 1)probably just as cheap as the yurt if we all split one room, and nobody has to bring bedding. I can pretty much sleep anywhere, so if I get a pillow and a blanket, I can crash on the floor no problem. 2)Free, albeit lackluster, breakfast. 3)Joey's! 4)looks like there will only be four or five of us going, so we should be able to squeeze into one vehicle. 5)I will remember my Nolanized KTP's this time, and we can skitch back to Houghton.
Footage: Courtney, I sent the cards today, so look for them within the next couple days. I intended to mail them Saturday, but I forgot that the post office closes at noon, and I showed up at 1pm. Yay me
Karl: Plan your natality festivities for Thursday, and instruct your kin to bestow money for lift tickets, lodging, food, and gas upon you. Then join us for the weekend. I doubt you will regret it. Most of us do purchase the season pass in December, and I bet you will as well for next year. As for the weekend in question, I know of no discount tickets, so you'll need $100 for both days.

Are you creating a video to post here?
Yup, I've been working on going through the footage and will eventually have an edit put together. There's a ton of stuff to sort through so it's pretty time consuming, this was just for everyone else who wanted a copy of the files.

The hard drive is on the way to you now Andrew. It should be there by Thursday.
On the hard drive there is a text file called Addresses. Once you copy the footage simply mail the hard drive to the name person on the list :)

Thanks Courtney, sorry i didnt read this until now, but yes, I have the hard drive, it's copying over to my HD as we speak. It should be in the mail to Tim in the morning, along with your sunglasses Tim!

I'd like to confirm that I'll be going to part II.
That particular Travellodge has decent reviews on Google.

Sorry, I forgot to respond about the Travelodge earlier. I've stayed there the previous two trips, and I had no complaints. Everything was clean, no weird smells or anything. The breakfast wasn't stellar, but it was decent. I'd say that may be our best shot. Do you want me to go ahead and book a room since Nick and I will be getting there first?
