I was doing some comparative research and looking at some older books, mags and other snow-related stuff, and I found a few things....
Skiboarding and Snowboarding are not only related, the skiboard bindings are, in fact, snowboard bindings used a long time ago. Nowadays, snowboards have evolutionized and are moving totally towards soft boots.
Taken from a book, "Hardboot/bindings offer instant reactions. Such a system is all about control, particularly edge control. It is worn by racers, alpine racers, and free carvers and offers quick entry/exit with a bale." There is a picture depicted with a ski boot, attached to a non-releasable binding, mounted to SNOWBOARD!
This, and also looking at board characteristics (not just length, sidecut and width) but also longitudinal flex, torsional flex, camber, sidecut offset, and symmetry play a big part of both skiboards and snowboards.
