I usually use Swix and just buy a brick of it to last the season. I just found some at Ski Hut. $12.50 for a whole season worth and more. Not too bad, thats about the same as getting it done by a shop once.

Head into Walmart and then go to where they sell Crafts. There you can find candles for as low as 98 cents and get a huge bar.

Yes, candle wax. Straight from the arts-n-crafts section. Awesome for those on the cheap. The pro shops use it when you're not looking or when they think you don't know any better.

I wuld love bulk bars, I bought wax and half the bar is gone already on one hot waxing job! I need more already for the next time I wax. I will definitely spread the word about the benefits of hot waxing and of course skiboarding.

DO NOT USE CANDLE WAX. It does not work as you would think it does. Ski wax is engineered to give ou the best ride you can get. If a shop is using candle wax that you know of, do not go to that shop. No shop will ever use candle wax on your skiboards or skis. They will on the other hand use bulk all weather ski wax which is ok of course. But for some good suggestions any of the test pilot or purl stuff that sbol carries is great, I am quite fond of Test Pilot. Swix is also a good brand, as of recently though I have been testing out some stuff that I was given by the owner of Rock n' Roll Bicycle Lube, he started making ski wax and the stuff rips.

I use RC Sport wax, but I have no idea about what is good or not since I have only used this brand. Does anyone know if this wax is good?

WRONG. I can say for a fact that candle wax works just fine. I just waxed 3 pairs of Snowjam 90 for my brothers and myself. I used a $0.99 Walmart candle for the wax. Just rub on, heat gun or blow dry until it melts and buff with hard styrofoam.

These skiboards slid like glass in various conditions encountered including groomed, powder, and ice. Additionally, there aren't any scratches in our bases, so candle wax protects really good too.

I know people will disagree, but wax is wax.

wax is not just wax, its specially made for optimum conditions.

snow tempurate. air tempurate, humidity, snow crystals, wind, and solar exposure are just some factors in choosing a wax.

to give the most extreme example i can think of, think of surfing.
surf wax is made ultra water repellant and also must have a high melting rate due to the hotter tempurature.

ski wax doesnt need to be as much water repellant, and must have a very low freezing tempature.

working at a ski shop we have about a dozen different kinds of wax for cross country skiing alone, all for different tempurate, each wax is good for about 5 or 10 degrees until you get to the next catagoery.

candle wax is made so that it evaporates quickly, but doesnt burn fast so you candle stays lit longer. therefore there is a lot of difference.

sure you can use candle wax, no problem, but you wont get as much performance as you would with normal ski wax.

Erm, Greco, I was just wondering... you know you wax new boards before you send them (which is of course very nice of you!)? I was just wondering if it is worth me using my hot wax before i go out on my new flyers?

Greco

usually the manufacturer's apply a rub on wax so the only boards we apply more wax too is the mnp's because they need it bad. you always benefit from hot waxing so you should go for it.

Great question. My Spruce 120's and Flyers came from Spruce prewaxed (would have bought from SBOL but this was a preorder from last year). The replacement ALP's were also prewaxed. Do the manufact do a good wax job or should I rewax.
