I was watching the weather channel this morning and it looks to me like the season is seriously approaching now. There is snow in Austria and snow in the Dakotas (see attatched pic)

It's been raining in Bodø for two months now, except for 3-4 days with sun, and another 2-3 days with snow, but that is a few weeks ago now.
According to some newspapers, there might be snow in store for us next week :)

Awesome, when is the season in Norway anyway? As in, when does it start and end?
Here in Massachusets it's usually late November/early December through late March/early April. I remember several years ago we had a huge blizzard on April first, that was awesome.

I dont know about the season in the ski resorts of inland Norway, but here at the coast, the weather can be really unstable, so we never expect the mountains to stay open for that much time during any given year. A couple years ago, the local mountain managed to open up for a full week, then the weather was so bad, It didnt manage to open again that year. That said, an average year should give about 1 month of open time, mostly between january and march. All the ski mountains within a couple hours of driving are run on a voluntary basis. The load isnt great enough to be able to run them comercially, especially since these places dont recieve any government funding, unlike most other sports in Norway. Still, some of the places can get extremely crowded at weekends, due to there only being one lift and two runs at most of these places.
To get some good skiing, I usually drive 4-6 hours across the border, to Sweden, which is a world apart from Norway, weather-wise. There, the resorts open in November-December, and can stay open as long as May. These are big (compared to the Norwegian ones), modern ski resorts with multiple lifts and runs. The weather is usually good, the snow is usually good, and they recieve funding from the Swedish government. You very rarely feel crowded in these places.

its still in the 70's here in SE-MI so it looks like it will be a while before we see any drop, our season usually starts early dec with crappy man made snow

The upper peaks of some of the areas around here have had 2 small blasts of snow. They're saying that it's not expected to stay long enough to have anything to do with the season other than to cool down/wet the ground so the snow will stick better, but it's already giving me the itch. Now for the next month and a half or 2 month's skiboarding will be insanely bugging me.

i've been checking the weather reports for some NE resorts. We aren't opening for a while, we are getting lows of 60's around here. Hardly the type whether for snow making or any snow accumilation at all.

Heres a picture that I took Friday night while I was driving.. It was snowing pretty hard for a while. None of it stayed because the ground isn't frozen and now its been warm but cold in the mornings.. Hopefully this 60 degree weather wont last.

That picture is pitch black, can't see anything but a faint road.
Here, we'll have a ways to go. It's still about 80-90 degrees outside during the day, but will be dropping real fast (I hope).
I'm hoping to make it to opening days of al l the local mountains here.

It is coming though. It is very close, I can feel it. If all the rain that we have been getting were snow i would be really happpy, epessially since im not to keen on freezing cold water rescues(oh yeah i forgot to say that i started volunteering at my local fire house and water rescues are one of my specialties) but here in maryland the water is like 30 degrees.

I think theyre the Verse 5 or something like that. They're very light and comfertable. I haven't had any problems yet and they have a good fit.

A Swedish resort I usually visit once or twice per year might be opening up one run with artificial snow sometime this month. But knowing that place, the one run will probably be jammed full of local kids with the local slalom club practicing their technique. Besides, its a five hour drive each way and the gas prices around here are at apx. 11 NOK per litre right now (thats 1.7 USD per litre), so I may just have to wait till the far side of November before my season can begin.

My season here in Maryland won't start untill mid-late December usually but (in addtion to expecting alot of snow this year) I have a Ski trip planned for thanksgiving week to Ski Whiteface in NY. I can't wait! I have never been to a decent resort. The list of resorts I've skied and Ski liberty, Ski Whitetail and Wisp. People always complain about crappy manmade snow but I don't think I've ever skied on real snow to know the difference. Have pity on me and be excited for me at the same time!
