EDIT - link...oops http://www.theflume.net/skiboarding/

Ive decided to create a new thread seperate from my "What to do?" thread, but you might want to read that first.

---

So, ive really taken SkaFreak's suggestion to heart here (sorry man, i dont know your first name) -
Personally I think a great thing to do would be to create a well organized skiboard media site. Just have the site dedicated to hosting skiboarding (and if you like other snowsports) videos, pics, designs, etc. Then have people send you their homemade videos and such, and then whenever we need it for one of the other sites (such as the sbol gallery) we'll already have a site to link to.

Ive created a basic design and a rough outline of the features, and now i need people to suggest possible features and give input about the design (which i did in like 20 minutes with no images, so it will definitely improve a bit). I also need to know if anyone with decent traffic skiboarding sites would consider doing some sort of a link swap with the site/other collaborations.

Well for link swaps, I'd say ask SBOL, ask Loken Industries, ask GST, ask skiboardmagaine.com, and all of those you could ask on these message boards. First name is Andrew by the way, but no problem not knowing. I don't know how hard this would be to do, but one feature that could be nice would be to have some method so that people don't have to email you to make changes to their gallery or bio. I understand that that may not be possible, but if it would it would both lighten your load as well as make it easier for everyone else to get their page/pics organized in a good way.

But just a nice clean form that sends it to me would work great. That also prevents spam and blank profiles, and stupid stuff like that. thanks though

I'm really not sure about forms ect. Greco may be able to help you out there. I'd be happy to do a link swap with you for GST and SkiboardReview. Once you're up and going if you need logo or banner or something let me know.

I cfant wait till it gets up and running.

Im also going to be doing an events page, which doesnt have a link for it yet but which i will add tomorrow.

Thanks, keep the suggestions coming.

If you send me the HTML for the form I can cook up the code for the form so it emails you a response and writes it to an Excel spreadsheet so it is easier to manage the data.

Where in Mass are you?

Ive visited SBM and looked through the whole site (excellent articles by the way), and your database area is a DB of videos, boards, and bindings from what ive seen at least. This will be a DB of actual skiboarders. The actual riders.

Wow...this is a day to remember. The day that one of my ideas was actually considered good by people other than me, lol.

Not sure what kind of system you're cooking up over there, but if you'd like some help putting something slick together so that people can manage their own profiles, I'd be happy to pitch in.

Honestly, I think i would rather do it manually at least for the time being, because i think if we let people just join and edit their own profiles we are going to end up with a lot of blank profiles, spam profiles, double profiles, etc. An easy to use form that sends to me will be the best way to do it, and ive already done most of the coding for that...just one little bug to be worked out.

And for those who are curious, the site should be up in 1-5 weeks depending on how busy i am with other stuff. Hope you all like it so far, thanks for all the input.

I don't want a bunch of little kids saying how 'that trick didn't have enought steeze.' Therefore it is nothing like newschoolers.

What's "steeze"?

SkaFreak
10-18-2005, 07:02 AM
It's the term skiier's use to say "Hey look, I want attention just like snowboarders, let's say dumb things." And no we don't want newschoolers, we want a site to feature a worthwhile sport that's not filled with dumb pricks who just love the feel of a long, hard pole in their arses....I mean hands.

kirk
10-18-2005, 09:29 AM
steeze = style

Gargantula
10-18-2005, 11:29 AM
Who the heck made up the words, jib, kink, steeze, kicker, etc.?

Jib already has a word, grind.

Kink is at least more descriptive of the type of rail.

Steeze should be style.

Kicker should be called a jump.

I'm not bashing on it, i'm just curious who was the first person to call it these terms and made it stick. It sounds like it came when snowboarding was first introduced.

SkaFreak
10-18-2005, 05:04 PM
Jib is definately a skiier term and may have come up because snowboarders used gind and they didn't want to be associated or compared. Kink has been around for a long time as an inline/skateboard/bmx term, and may have even existed before that simply to describe that type of rail. Steeze is most likely also a skiier term being that I have never heard it used by snowboarders anywhere. Kicker is a more descriptive term for a jump because there are different kinds of jumps. A kicker is a jump that has a curved takeoff and a lip.

A vagina?

Gargantula

Ah, I see. Is a kicker like a jump curved like the top lip of a half pipe?

A vagina? not just a vagina..."A woman's vagina." :p seriously...who the hell writes that stuff?

SkaFreak

Kickers are what most people think of when they think of a ramp. Almost all table jumps you find out there have a kicker as the takeoff ramp, then there is the flat area and the landing. Kickers aren't as steep as halfpipes. If you wanted to compare a kicker to a halfpipe in any way it would basically be like if you just took the transition of a halfpipe.

Gargantula
10-19-2005, 08:17 PM
Ah, so it has that typical ramp triangle shape?

SkaFreak
10-19-2005, 10:35 PM
Yeah, with just a slight curve in it to "kick" you into the air a bit more, hence the name.

Wow, that sounds like fun! I want to hit kickers now. ;)

SkaFreak

Almost all jumps in a terrain park will be kickers nowadays, and pretty much any jump that someone will build off a trail will be a kicker, so pretty much if you hit a jump nowadays thats not a cliff, it's probably a kicker. Most of the jumps in the videos on here are tabletops as well (a kicker, then a flat, then the landing.)
