So I come here from skiing

I know that skiboards turn on edge.. like snowboards.. I don't really know what that means(I've been snowboarding). I mean you lean to turn on a snowboard, but I used to lean to turn on skis to right? what's the difference?

I'm starting out with spruce boards, and I know they're narrower so they'll ride more like skis. eventually, I'll probably get a fatter board so that I can switch depending on what I want to do on a given day. Will going with a fatter board require different technique and be harder?

btw.. you kno that spin move, when you spin around while on the snow.. I guess like going fakie and then back again really quickly.. is that hard to do? it looks so cool! I imagine it'll be a little harder on my spruce skiboards cause they're narrower.

I come from skiing as well...The first time you ride these you are going to be amazed. Ride just like you were skiing. Just dont try to parallel ski. You need to keep your boards a bit farther apart. You will feel a bit wierd for a few until you get used to not having poles but other than that...You will wonder why you didnt do this sooner. Much easier on your legs thats for sure. As for 360's...those will be cake too. I just wouldnt try too many in a row cause the tail is not as high as the nose.

I also want to add that the main difference is, especially when ur new, if you turn too hard, you're gonna catch an edge or spin. I remember my first day on skiboards, on my third run, i tried moguls, it was a disaster.

so basically, work on wide turns and easy trails your first day out, and check out the park but stay away from black diamonds and ice until you really get used to the subtle differences in turning.

hope that helps

Yeah, I love how I can carve so deep and run my hands along the snow on those hard hip dragging turns. It's exciting!

When you get into deeper, faster carves, the forces increase a lot and if you do not counter it you will catch an edge and almost fall on one foot if you can keep your balance or fall. It's happened to me a couple times on short 65cm skiboards.

Yeah...the best is carving a nice smooth black diamond run super fast so you can really lay out your turns dragging your hands.Fun as hell
