My first post!

Typical story: I went skiboarding for the first time last Dec on a pair of rentals and completely fell in love. Found this site, bought a set of boards, and now I'm looking for some boots.

I've dug around a bit, but I can't seem to find any general information on what to look for in a pair. Can anyone tell me what all I should be considering, besides comfort? I have minimal experience skiing and snowboarding, and I know nothing about footwear to begin with. I was thinking I might go to the nearby 2nd-hand store and pick up a cheap pair of boots for this season to figure out what I want/don't want in them before I blow some money on a new pair.

One last thing: has anyone ever tried using mountaineering boots with their skiboards? I'm planning on lugging my boards with me when I go hiking come summer, and I'd love to be able to cut down on the weight. If not, does anyone have suggestions for a lightweight pair of boots? I've heard of the Rossignol Soft, but are there any others out there?

Thanks a bunch!

I would not recommend you try mountaineering boots..There are a few soft boots out there but the Rossi soft is one of the best and lightest. If you really fell in love with the sport then....You should invest in some good gear. If you like the soft boot then the Rossi soft 3's are good. Remember you can't have fun if you're uncomfortable so it pays to be good to your feet. Even if you have to pay a bit more for your comfort.

Excellent - so you're basically saying I should go with the most comfortable boots I can find, right? Anything else I should look for/avoid?

an upright stance is good for skiboarding, but i guess if the boot had too much of a foward lean it would be uncomfortable. so yeah, look for a comfy ski boot or hardshell snowboard boot.

Yeah seriously...if you can afford the Deeluxe lemans those have the best upright stance available and sooooo comfy. 4 or 5 forward lean positions. Just be sure when you are trying them on that you CAN'T move your ankle around but you SHOULD still be able to wiggle your toes easily. Maybe look for more of a freeriding boot or a hardshell snowboarding boot vs. a straight alpine boot. Also stay in your boots for a bit to REALLY make sure they are the perfect fit and you like them. Again if you like the soft boot thing too the Rossi soft 3 is nice but still in my opinion (and I am biased becouse I own a pair) the Deeluxe lemans are the best.
