Hi, I am thinking of buying a pair of skiboards but am unsure what to go for.

I am 5'8'' and weigh about 120lbs, never skiied and was not a big fan of snowboarding. Tried some - snowblades i suppose - in France last year and absolutely loved it. A a reasonably good inline skater, so that may explain why... :-)

So what would be a good pair of boards and bindings to get started with?

I was thinking about 90cm boards... so either the Canon Heritage or the SnowJams Scorpions.

Binding-wise I was looking at either the SnowJams Extreme II or Line FF Pros... I am not too fussed about releasables (or should I be? ) .

Any advantages/disadvantages with these boards/bindings? What would be the best combination in your experience?

I've never ridden snowjam boards, so I can't really give you a comparison, but the Canon's are great boards. As for bindings, everyone here says bomber bindings are just amazing, and line ffPros come in a close second, so between the two you suggested, go with the line's. As for being worried about non-release bindings, don't be, espescially if you are only going with 90 cm boards. Generally the only way people get hurt with the non-release bindings is when you have a beginner on bad boards (such as Snowblades) and they dig a tip into something, fall forward, and twist around as they fall, causeing a spiral fracture. Generally if you know what you're doing at all there is little to no risk.

Cool, cheers for your reply and recommendation on the Line FF Pros. That pretty much helped me to make up my mind. :D Also ta, for confirming what I thought about releasables. I am not going to see myself doing any fancy tricks anyway, so all should be fine.

If anyone has some thoughts on the SnowJam v Canon question, I'd appreciate some advice :-)
Eg wondering about the Canons having extruded base rather than sintered as recommended (as per skiboard comparison chart)?!

I have reserved myself a pair of the Epic ALPs so once greco gets them in stock i will be selling my brand new pair of Canon Neal Lyons Pro with spruce releasables. Hope fully this will happen sometime early to mid december.

of the canon's or snowjam i'd go with the canon's, they have a softer flex pattern which i prefer for carving.

I love my canon H-series (just like the heretige)...they rock in all conditions...great width for powder, nice flex for carving and popping off little bumbs and stuff on trails, very responsive boards...couple that with the Bomber Elite (definetly the nicest bindings I've ever ridden) and your set!
