I think it depends on the resort. I have been told befor at my locals that I have to have them on my board. They never say anything to me at Mammoth. Now I just keep them in my bag so if they tell me I need them then I go put them on but for the most part they are a pain in the ass. I have had mine help me though. When I first got my bombers I thought they were adjusted right....I went off like a 6 or 8 foot drop and had my left board pop off right when I landed. Lucky I didnt break my leg but my boards was still right next to me instead of down the hill. So yeah....they help....especially when trying to get your bindings on after a few jaegers....lol. Easier to pull up and get the back bail on.

Whenever snowboarders are required to wear leashes, skiboarders generally have too also. The reason for leashes is so that your board has some way of stopping should it accidentally pop off somehow. I also have had a leash save a skiboard for me. I was landing a small jump and my binding screw had been loosened a bit by the vibrations of skiing for a season without tightening it, so it came off on the landing and drifted out from under my foot. Leash kept it from running off so I didn't have to hunt it down. I've also seen someone who was riding salomons have a binding pop and their board went flying off into the trees because they didn't have the leashes on right.

One time I was riding without leashes and I hit a kicker and my bindings were loose. I didn't tighten them because they would just come loose again because they were groove x-1s and the impact made the board come right off. I stood up and my board was nowhere in sight. I looked off the side of the trail and my board was sticking up out of about a foot of powder I was very relieved and it was pretty cool how it was just sticking up like that. But yeah people do tell me that i need leashes so i just try to keep a pair in my bag when i go if I don't greco will usually have a pair on him for me.

How did your X-1's loosen themselves? Those bindings are impossible to move without an allen wrench and lock into place really well.

They were just old and worn. They weren't even mine they were my older brother's boards and bindings. God knows what he did to wear them down.

There's no reason not to use leashes. It might be a pain in the ass sometimes but it'll save you a lot of trouble if you happen to come out of your bindings.

My friend has this on video:

The first or second time we went out last season i was on some rental salomon snowblades, they had the the cheep easy adjust bindings. One had a leash, the other did not. Well going up a lift i noticed one of the boards was loose, i shook my boot back and forth and sure enough, my left board popped off. Me and my friend were like OH CRUD untill i realized it was the skiboard that HAD the leash. I Lucked out! Once we got to the top, i retightend the bindings and it didnet happen again.

Luckly this year i got some nice MNPs with ff pro bindings! no more plastic bindings!

It depends on the mountain but its a good idea. Ive had the leashes save my boards on the lift. My friend didnt wear leashes, did a 540,fell and had to walk down a dbl black to get his boards. So in my opinion id wear em even if they arent required by the mountain.

what kind of bindings did your friend have? ussually low quality plastic - 8 hole bindings will release if you put enough pressure on them, higher quality 4 hole bindigns will never release, no matter what, unless they are too loose.

I popped out of my rental Salomon bindings a few times and they were on pretty tight. I bought some Weapons and FF Pros for this season so i'm really excited.

This is kind of off topic but is still about leashes. I just ordered some Snowjam 06 90cm boards off here. I was wondering do these come with leashes or do I have to buy them separately?

I think it's required by most mountains and it should be, but I don't mind them at all. I mean what is so hard about putting them around your leg? Maybe I am putting them on wrong.

Better safe then having the skiboards go down the mountain and knock a couple people down. I was never taught how to, but it seems self explanatory.

That's just what I was thinking...I never thought it was that much of a pain not to use them...

That's a good way to practice one foot skiboarding and turns. Haha. It's fun to do that for a little bit. One foot 360s are fun as well.
