Im still relatively new (this will be just my 2nd season) to the sport, and thanks to SBOL and some great people, im learning a lot. But im still a bit confused about who the top pro skiboarders are. I have a few questions.
1 - It seems like a lot of people left the sport after it was taken out of the X-Games...i just wanna verify this if anyone can.
2 - What kinds of pro competitions are there, about how many a season, and what is the ISF's role in this?
3 - Who makes up the upper echelon of skiboarders? If you could give me a top 10 guys right now that would be great. From what ive seen it's the lynmans, the mitchells, wannamaker, kirk, doucet, brian class, and kevin boate. Then there are those two guys in the "Hall of Fame", Lyons and Stewart...not sure if they're still in the sport or what but i see they're in white dwarf too so im a bit confused there...
thanks so much.:)

The ISF is something some dude put together that basically flopped. Hell Greco might as well be the ISF and Doc Roberts can be the ISBF (snowblading) as they are the ones who are truly keeping the sport alive as we know it.
JMO here and I can only base it by online video footage, but Kirk is the man!! The boy has style and should be Team 1 for sure. Doucet appears to be a bad mofo as well.
Bailey is a skiboarding GOD
I'm the resident fatboy wannabe.

Skiboarding is pretty new so there aren't that many pros out there.
Hopefully I can make a mark in history :p with a new style and make a video this season to showcase in this forum.

you right most of the pro skiboarders left after it was out of the x games. couple of reason. some switched to skiing where there could be money to be made. you cant call yourselve a proffessional if its not your proffesion, so if your not getting a pay check for it, you cant be a pro.
some of them still skiboard (Neal Lyons, andy stewart to name some) but most of them became pro skiers, or simply jsut faded away and went on to other things.
as for who makes up the current pros, none, but Team 1 of sbol are probably some of the best skiboarders in the world.

Thanks Roussel and philly. Sounds cool Gargantula, im always eager to see some video.
So why are Lyons and Stewart in the "Hall of Fame"...does that mean they are retired, off the SBOL team, or just the very best of team 1?

i think andy mostly skis now, and only skiboards once in a while and for videos.
as for neal, i heard he still skiboard sometimes, i have no idea.
none of them are on the sbol team.

Thanks, but im still wonderin what that hall of fame thing means with andy and neal...on the Team I page

i guess it just means they are not active skiboarders yet they will always have a place on the team, hence the hall of fame designation.
i don't think neal does anything with snow sliding sports anymore and andy is trying to get big in freeskiing. he will skiboard though if we all get together.

thats cool, thanks Greco...seems like SBOL and Skiboards.com really represent the entire sport outside of Japan at least...

Probably...ISF site says " Skiboarding is HUGE in Japan!"...whatever that means

Actually skiboarding is pretty big in japan I think. Bigger than here. They have the snow domes there too and from what iv'e seen it's mostly skiboarders riding. People are catching on...just needs more time. You see people are joing this board left and right.

Are any skiboarders sponsored/paid?
SkaFreak
11-30-2005, 04:04 PM
Well depending on what definiting of sponsored is, it could be yes. If a company gives you discounts or free gear because of your abilities, I consider it to be a sponsorship, meaning anyone on a SBOL team is sponsored in some way, even if it's as small of a sponsorship as 5% off of orders. On big orders even that 5% could mean a decent chunk of cash. And if I'm not mistaken G will sometime hook the team I guys up with free gear.

Since, you live kinda near me, what mountains do you go to? I'm planning to go to Shawnee on December 9, 2005 if they open. The terrain park will be open.
