I just spent a couple of days on my newly purchased Weapons at Mammoth Mountain here in Southern California. I've been riding Snowblade rentals for years and was eager to feel the difference. Man was there a huge difference. First thing i noticed was how much faster i could pick up speed on my Weapons compared to Salomons. The wider Weapons also floated and plowed through powder much easier although i still had some trouble on those powder runs where there were stacks all over the place. If i had gone through those runs on Snowblades, i would have been skating myself down the mountain. That would have been tiring and not fun at all. I also had a chance to ride fakey at times and it was much more fluid with the centered stance and twin tips.
On my first day one of my FF Pro (blue) bindings came loose. My boot was moving all around. I found it strange cause my other binding was fine and they were both adjusted to the same size. Needless to say, it's not a good idea to skiboard with loose bindings. My friends and i decided to get some lunch at that point and then get everything fixed up afterwards. I ended up adjusting the loose binding one grid smaller than the other. I don't really understand how that works but it did. I felt a much greater increase in control afterwards.
On our second day we took the Gondola lift to the Cornice Bowl!! The Cornice is a black diamond run on the top of Mammoth. You start with about an 75 degree drop. At first it's really steep and then it turns into a speed run down the left side of the mountain. It really is one amazing long run. Anyway, my Weapons had no problem carving it up and felt absolutely no chatter whatsoever. Everything was smooth.
So in conclusion i'm really happy with my Weapons. I ended up with a nice long gash on my base in the end but the construction of the board held up very well. I was impressed considering i cut through a lot of icey parts.
Other things to note. It seemed like i was the only person skiboarding. It really is a rare thing to see up in Mammoth. Everyone is skiing and snowboarding. At one point i saw two people skiboarding but i couldn't make out what they were using. One board was purple looking but i don't think it was the old MNP model. No one was rude to me or anything but i did notice some people staring at me. They were probably asking themselves what i was riding cause they looked different compared to Snowblades. No weird stares or anything though.
Thanks again to Kirk and Courtney for their feedback when i first got these boards. They said the Weapons were great all mountain boards and i definately agree now. It was a fantastic weekend on a pair of brilliant boards!
The attached picture is of the Cornice Bowl run. You start at the top and come down. We had stopped on the bottom of the bowl to take in the moment and take pictures and video. Unfortunately i didn't get any footage of me riding but my friends told me i was going really fast and looking good. Good enough...
Thanks for reading.
