I started skiboarding last year, not doing any tricks, just getting used to boards. (i used to snowboard, I like skiboarding a lot more!)
This year i learned a 180 on the first day and now I can do 3's and flat rails. I wanna go bigger, but i can't land when i go off bigger jumps. I've thought about this a lot, and i think that i might go get a pair of twintips because my skiing friends say they are more stable and more fun.

What do you guys think?

what size boards do you have? Maybe yours are too small and thin. You would have more stable landings with bigger boards like revolts.

fun is subjective term, THEY might think it's more fun but you might not.

the best way to be a great skier is to do both, you learn to throw big on skis, but you learn stability and being precise in all your movements on skiboards.

each sport helps the other. many of the big name in skiboarding (some people on the Revel8 team) also ski.

but then again some skiboarders who switch over to skiing find it too easy. When Neal Lyons tried skiing he said "i have to start learning how to fall on these things to make it a challenge" (or something like that)

try both, you might like both and might want to do both, or you might stick to skiboard, or want to switch to skiing. what ever you do dont do it jsut cuz your friend are telling you to, ride what you want, what you have the most fun on basically.

I didn't vote, but twin tips are more stable with landings. Although the old timers used to go big with skiboards as well. It is up to you. But if you go twin tip...don't forget your roots.

this is very good advice R gave:

"the best way to be a great skier is to do both, you learn to throw big on skis, but you learn stability and being precise in all your movements on skiboards."

Good Luck,

some of us skiboarders throw big.... fook... just takes time and the willingness to take risks every once in a while..... as in both skiing and snowboarding.... dont expect to get on a pair of boards and throw huge airs off 40 footers overnight it wont happen and if it does well then keep it up man. you must be a prodogy or sumthin....

First of all, this might be a bit of biased place to ask about advice concerning which sport to pursue. You're going to get an almost unanimous vote for skiboarding. Who voted for skiing anyway? My main point is, I don't think skis are that much easier to land on than skiboards. You just need to compensate one way or the other a little more. Skis will not compensate for you leaning forward or back on your landing; you're still going to fall. You just need to find a little more balance. If you aren't going to stick with trying to do something, maybe you should just skip skiing and skiboarding altogether and become a snowboarder; they're pretty much content with wrecking all the time.

Ski's are longer than skiboards. They are more forgiving on landings. Yes both have the chance of just eating it, but you can land on the back tips of your skis and ride out. Just look at some of the landings where skiers end up almost sitting down on the back tips of their skis from leaning back a bit and absorbing a lot of impact. If you tried the same on skiboards, they would pivot around and you would fall. This isn't even something that is just speculation or what it feels like. If you look at the physics involved (which would take way long to explain all of here) it truly is easier to land on skis.

I found with skiboards the impact of a landing is distributed more evenly, given the massive base under the boot.

I have felt a lot of ski impacts and it seems you feel those alot more the day after. When I went out with skiboards, landed hard, causing me to go numb in some cases, I thought i was going to feel it the next day. Never did.....
