I was very surprised recently when I listened to 40 minutes of interviews with old time inline skaters on a dvd called "Black Market." All the same issues we discus that concerns skiboards were brought up in these interviews. They could have substituted skibaords for rollerblading and it would all have been the same. Discrimination, sponsorship abuse, lack of money, lack of quality, what is wrong with the industry and all the rest...even how inline is considered 'gay' by the skateboard crowd. (I thought that title was reserved for short skis?) One skater talked about how he started with the X Games in 1995 and how inline was dropped right after he got started. Same thing with skiboards as well as streetluge. Well, streetluge...that is really an underground sport.

Well, maybe streetluge is not so underground as skibaords as I checked their site and it has about 75 links on it. Underground? Mainstream or not? All topics discussed in detail on this dvd. I guess the purpose of this post is to let you know that skiboarders are not the only ones singled out for discrimination. The interviews are on the flip side if you get a copy. If you like inline, this dvd also has some of the best skating in Europe and the USA.

the x-games have totally lost their purpose. the x-games was a venue for small underground "extreme" sports to have some kind of exposure and a place to compete, now its stripped down to what is considered cool enough by mainstream to show on TV. which of course is skateboarding, snowboarding and biking (there has been rumours of removing skiing as well
on a similar note, everyone should watch a documentary called Dogtown and the Z-Boys. basically all this "extreme" style of sports are somewhat derived from the 70's skating and surfing style and attitude of these kids. after watching what skateboarding was back then, the X-Games looks like a friggen sideshow carnival circus clown act.

Yes, have to agree with X Games critique.
Z boys?...excellent viewing for sure. I was there at the time it was all happening in SM, Venice, L.A....although knew none of the principals.

right now at this time i really dont care if we get singled out. everyone has their time. snowboarders went through it. twin tippers started to. and now its our turn. We just gotta keep what we are doing. and earn the respect 1 person at a time. I just hope that some tool from twin tipping puts on salomon snowblades and gets interveiwed and ruines all we have been working towards. the last thing we need is a shaun white of skiboarding.
my 2 cents

I've been discriminated against as an inline skater since 1996. That sport had been around a long time by then and has grown considerably now. The things that inliners are doing now is amazing. But, there is still no respect.
I feel that skiboarding will go through the same thing. As a sport it will grow and the tricks will become amazing. But it will never go mainstream and it will always be discriminated against.
When I landed on my head, I was not approached by any snowboarders to see if I was alright. Instead I got a bunch of jeers and laughter from the lift above. Had I landed the misty, I may have gotten respect from 10-25% of them. This has been the case with inlining parks all over california. There will always be a few skateboarders whose respect u can earn. But never all or even the majority.

As far as I'm concerned, the mainstream can kiss my sintered bases. I like my small, tight knit, underground sport.
is that movie any good? they have it at stop and shop and i always thought it looked dumb, maybe i should rent it
