I went to a local Line Skis demo yesterday to check out their skiboard products for next season and to get more info on the Reactor release binding.

So, there were 10 pairs of mostly last year's demo skis (all with Look and Marker bindings) and NO skiboards. There was ONE ski with a Reactor binding mounted on it, but no mate, so there was no chance to try the binding.

There was one glossy brochure (no copies) with pictures of next year's skiboards. They are the same two boards as this year (FLY and Pro, both with 90cm and 98cm lengths but with new graphics that looked ok, but pretty plain IMO. The skiboards are supposed to be offered with both the plastic 8-hole non-release bindings as well as with inserts for mounting the Reactor binding. The inserts are 38mm x 43mm, so those boards will only mount the Reactor binding, nothing else and the Reactor binding cannot be mounted on any other board.

The retail prices for the boards are: $199 with the inserts (no binding) and $249 with the plastic 8-hole binding. The Reactor binding will come in two flavors: DIN 10 and DIN 12. Retail on the DIN 10 is $249 and on the DIN 12 $299.

Since the Reactor binding was attached to a ski I couldn't get a sense of it's weight but the Line rep said it was about like last year when it was very heavy. The binding is not in production yet (it's being made in China) and there won't be any units available to dealers until the Fall.

It looks like it would be possible to come up with aluminum adaptor plates that would allow the Line binding to be mounted on 4x4 boards and allow standard 4x4 bindings to be mounted on the new Line boards. Anyone interested in these can post here.

hmm, im not sure if this is better or worse then their 03/04 line up

as for adapter plates, im not sure how it woud work, with the new hole being only 3.17 mm off, the new screw holes might go pass through the other screw holes...

The way the adaptor plates would be set up is with one set of 4 holes about 14mm back of the other set of holes on the plate so that there was enough clearance between the two sets of holes. This means that to use a plate like this you would have to live with moving the stance on the board either forward or back by the 14mm offset.

When I ride, I can't tell the difference between say, neutral stance and -14mm, but I don't go in the park at all.

I find that Line doesn't care about skiboarding at all. I contacted them on numerous occassions and they haven't gotten back to me not even once. I honestly think that their just in the skiboarding industry to make money and don't care about the skiboarding community at all. But Jeff, it's pretty funny that you will also be making money off your competitor. For Reactor's to work you will have to manufacture plates so you'll be your own competition.
