View Full Version : Uk Meet!

This is for ideas about having a uk meet.

Ok as we live in this rather unsnowy place we will either have to go to:

Snowdome (tamworth or milton keynes would be best)
Scotland
Europe

Given the number of us, i reckon snowdome would be best...recreational passes arn't cheap but they have thier own boxes, rails and kickers, so I imagine that's where the action would be. Scotland is a mad trek usually and plane is best bet, but im not sure how much snow is there. Europe is alwasy a good choice except for the fact that flights + acc+ passes + food means itll end up costing loads.

My vote goes to snowdome, we could tell them we're coming, make sure we could film it, have a blast basically, and hopefully introduce some people to skiboarding!

Now comes the problem of when.....im away first week of easter, skiboarding in cham, but the good thing about snowdomes is that they are open all year round, so in theory we could meet anytime!

weekends are probably best.

post thoughts!!

taimos

tamworth: http://www.snowdome.co.uk/
milton keynes: http://www.xscape.co.uk/snow/milton-keynes/?PHPSESSID=8ed463d8a9a436e4db55360927c739af

It's like an indoor slope full of snow that didnt fall from the skies.

never been so wouldn't know, its a 4 hour drive to nearest one.

I imagine they should be alright, ive seenpics and vids and people seem to be alright on them.

Much better than dryslope when it comes to falling off as well, id expect.

Olly will be able to tell you more id imagine, as i think he goes to tamworth regularly.

My 'local' is Xscape Castleford, will be going one Sunday evening within the next few weeks. I'll post up when I know which. Its one of the better value sessions and most of the times I've been they have moguls and/or one or more box/rail. Usually quiet except peak season. Full freestyle nights are Thurs/Fri.

Could probably make it to Tamworth too depending on when.

Every time this year that snow's looked good in Scotland on a weekend its been forecast gale force winds!

Anyone in UK got Revel8s? Thinking of getting BWPs next pay day.

Anyone know if there are any "snowdomes" in the U.S. I'd love to hit up one of those in the summer.

thank god they're planning one in NJ. Hopefully its near me. I only get to go like 3 times a year because the closest place is JFBB (3 hours away) and my parents dont wanna go as much as I do.

I'd be up for meeting at some point. One of the snowdomes is probably best - xscape in MK is best for me, but I can probably get upto Tamworth without any major problems....

Most likely going to Xscape Castleford this Sunday evening. Sounds like most people on here at the mo are down south, but any northerners out there PM me.

Midland/southerners, let me know when you're going to Tamworth I can make it there, MK too far though.

Does anyone get to the Snowdome in Tamworth? I'm setting up, or trying to, a once a month trip with work - prob the 1st Thursday of the month.

It would be great to see other Revel8 riders.

Anaesthetic, can you report on what Xscape is like, it's not too far for me and I might try and get there some time.

Hi Phil,

Xscape in my experience is better than Tamworth. Its less icy for one and doesn't have all that plastic matting, wooden splintered ramps and travelator that takes the wax off the bases and generally beats up your skiboards a bit. Proper Poma tow on mostly snow covered snowflex. I wouldn't take my shiny new Revel8s to Tamworth, would take my beat up SnowJams. Xscape has better snow and on Sunday evenings when I go (cheapest session) every other week has moguls and often (especially during summer) they have some rails/kickers if you like that kinda thing.

Last time I went it was pretty dead, good for racing down at full pelt and practising fakie riding without having to dodge lots of learner skiers/boarders. It was also the day after a big freestyle 'air bag' event so they'd left a whole park line down one side. Easy to avoid if you're not into that cos of lack of other riders.

Admittedly I haven't been to Tamworth for a while, but given the choice I'd go to Xscape every time. Having said that if there are skiboarders going and I can make it, could always bring the SnowJams down to Tam on a Thursday night. Just leave a msg on here if going to either, I have this thread monitored.

Hi Anaesthetic,

The travelator at Tam is a bit nasty as well as the rope pulley, the ice wasn't too much of a problem though and I did like the little left-hander they have in the run.

Xscape does seem to be a lot newer facility and from what I saw on the website it looks like a nice slope.

As I've just put some graphite flouro wax on the Tanshos I don't need too much of an excuse to give them a spin :) I'll try and get over to Castleford on Sunday, the slope opens at 7:00pm doesn't it?

Coolio, the 3 hour session is 6-9 or 7-10pm, 7-10 a bit quieter I think. Sent you a PM.

Phil

Hi An,

I've PM'd you.

Either session is good for me, but having more of the slope is better. See you at the 7-10?

Hey guys, seems like i will be in UK for few or more months, my location by default after July 1st will be Ipswich... Norwich, around that area. Who knows i will go anywhere else, if i will get better job that that in Ipswich.

So - i wanted to know where ya guys meet in summer to ride skiboards (i know those snowdomes u talking here.. but where is nearest for me)?

Thanks.

Phil
06-26-2007, 02:32 PM
Hi Allz,

Ipswich is a really nice place, but it's in the south-east corner of the UK and is a little out of the way.

I think the Milton Keynes snowdome would be nearest to you.

http://www.xscape.co.uk/snow/milton-keynes/

Tamworth would probably be a good central place for most people.

so, i am not any more in Ipswich, i moved to York.
will see how things going with job seeking, who knows maybe i could go one day to one of nearest xspaces or even Sheffield snowflex resort ... !?!?!?!

Phil
07-08-2007, 04:22 AM
York is really close to the Xscape in Castleford. When you know what dates you'll be free post them here. They have some discounted 3 hour sessions on the weekends and the rails & kickers are available.

Yeah, would be good to meet up with you in Xscape Martins. Do you have transport?

allz
07-09-2007, 10:28 AM
yeah ofcorse, that would be great to meet .

but i am liek little bit stuck here, looking for new job, so, till i dont get a job i cant go normally anywhere...

and nope - i have no vehicle, besides, if i will be in some of these xspaces or sheffield snowflex place, i will rent all inventory, .. or someone will give me his old ones.. ;)

so, i am located in York, North Yorkshire, nice place.

(p.s. if someone needs a worker(loyal, hardworking, and i am a skiboarder... :) ) in any position, tell me here or PM.. thanks)

no problem to let you borrow one of my pairs of skiboards if we do get to meet up. at xscape they only have salomon snowblades. you can hire boots for free.

good luck in finding a job.

Good chance I could be at Xscape on Sunday night.
They might have moguls in as there's a comp on Sat night.

Phil
09-07-2007, 01:43 PM
I gave them a quick call and they have the mogul session on the Sunday starting at five for a '3hrs coaching session with the England mogul freestyle coaches.'

They only have 3 of the 20 places booked so I'm up for that if they allow skiboards.

Martins, are you still in the area? Got any of the Allz 94's :)

i guess that means they're open to public from 8, I'll wait til then, you shouldn't really need coaching, moguls are easy on 90cm skiboards ;)

i wonder if they'll have a kicker at the bottom of the moguls, they have in the past, big steep thing that they back flip off.

i'll be there 6-9 or 7-10.

nice :D
You should post next time you're heading over there.
A few of us could meet, though I might be heading more to Chill Factore in Manchester when it opens, bit closer to me ;)

I'd like to get more into freestyle, would help having someone to show us the tricks & boost my confidence!

Which skib's are you riding?

I'm sure the Tanshos with me on them will kill a mogul field, but I'm curious to know what tips and knowledge you'd pick-up from such a session - not all of it is what kit you use. I may have a word with the instructor.

You can go first, I'll bring my camera :D

In other news going to be at Xscape milton keynes for freestlye night this thursday (7-9).

EDIT: also now ive 'masterd' frontsides haahah, im going to try and land fakie, like the video of Shifty. hopefully it will work.

Sunday is 2nd Dec, I will be there, hopefully with my MNP-riding friend.

There was a small box out last night and I got myself doing frontside slide to fakie (like shifty's vid, but probably not as stylish haha!)

One tip - if you've not done fakie landings before practise them first. Either just do some 180 jumps off the ground or off a small kicker. I ended up doing the 'leaning forward touching tips' landing first time, as well as not being very stylish, its not nice on your quad thigh muscles ;)
I think the trick will be to land upright & centred and sink into it by bending your knees not leaning forward. Try and jump off the box/rail rather than slide off, I think this might help in straightening up before you land. I think there's a 'good'/'bad' demo of fakie landings in the Japanese tutorials somewhere.

taimos I pm'd you but I think it said your inbox is full

ok, was so angyr last night, got caught in traffic going up so got there about 8, and then find out, that the bottom half of one run is closed, and that no kickers or rails have been put out.

it was a good night though, i just practiced fakie and butters.

oo, that would annoy me too - did they have an event on or something?

oh, well sounds like you made the most of it, that's the cool thing about skiboarding, there's so many different ways of riding to practise. when there're no kickers/rails I'll be practising carving, fakie & ground tricks
