Hello. I recently tried skiblades(I rented a brand called Head Big Easy 94 with releasable bindings). To my surprise I did pretty good(for my second time). I'm looking into buying my own but what is the difference between ski blades and ski boards? I went to Blue mountain(Palmerton, PA) and tried asking for ski boards and the guy looked at me like I was crazy and said "you mean ski blades??" So i thought they were the same. After reading some forums, ski boards are supposed to be better? I'm 5'1, 120 lbs. Can anyone tell me if ski boards are suitable for me and what brand would be best? And how much wider is a board compared to a blade? Would it be beneficial to me if I had a wide board? I read that a lot of people here do tricks and such. I'd really like to use ski blades or boards to just go down the mountain with a little speed and ease (Because skiis and snowboards are so difficult!) Some advise would be greatly appreciated.

read through this thread
http://www.sbol.ws/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2648
to see the difference b/w snowblades and skiboards. most shops have absolutely no idea of the difference.

If you're into serious riding you'll want skiboards.

snowjam 75's 90's or Revel 8 tanshos
or if ya wanna used set to start with:
http://cgi.ebay.com/GROOVE-GIRLZ-SNOW-BLADES_W0QQitemZ270097222345QQcategoryZ1303QQssPag eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
please buy these so i don't have to (i just spent alot of dough, but hard to pass these up)... I'm also female, love my groove boards, they aren't made anymore, nice and wide, will float like crazy for someone your size, and so maneuverable. I love em for cruising, powder ice, crud, up to double blacks, even moguls
(and I'm usually a snowboarder, so for me to do the good stuff on 2 planks is awesome)
go with non releaseables in short boards, and releaseables in long (over 90 for you)
its a physics thing.... you'll love the diff between these and the Big Sleazey's, i know, a lot of the local mtns. here rent them

When were you at Blue mountain? I think I may have seen you, but I'm not sure (I was riding EMPs, I don't know if you would have noticed). Anyway, be glad they gave you the head big easys; the salomons there are not good. I rode those rentals all last year before purchasing some Revel8s this year. For you, I'd suggest getting some Revel8 tanshos or BWPs. If you haven't realized from reading threads on this forum yet, Revel8s are the best boards on the market. I absolutely love mine and wouldn't trade them for anything. As for which Revel8 boards, that's based on riding preference. If you don't plan on spending much time in the park, I'd say go with the BWPs because they'll hold they're edges better in carves and just be faster. Hope that helps.

Kirk, no disrespect to the Big Easy's. I had fun on them but they look kind of ugly which is why I wouldn't purchase them. I guess it's a girl thing? I have 3 boards in mind. Revel 8 BWP, Loken Cruise Tool Eight, and the Loken Ape Torch. But the BWP's say you have to be at least 5'2 to ride with the releasable bindings? I'm 5'1. Is it really THAT important and that much of a difference?

BTW Dan, I was at Blue Mt. on 3/10...was there till closing. haha. Couldn't get enough.. I plan to go again this sat or sun.

it's a recommendation, not required. if you're an experienced skier you should be able to handle the BWP 98's.

just keep in mind the loken cruise tools do NOT flex, maybe a little but barely. not very comfortarble to ride.

After hours and hours of thinking.. I've decided to buy the Revel 8 Tansho. However, the bindings here are kind of steep. Soo can anyone tell me if Spruce Mountain Risers with Salomon 509 release bindings are good for my board? I also came across Tyrolia SLD 11 Railflex Ski Bindings. Would these be good on a skiboard?

Gromit

Yes to Spruce Risers with Salomons. The Tyrolia Railflexs are not recommended for Revel8 skiboards. The screws wouldn't get enough grip in the wood of the boards.

Skiboardsonline normally has the composite Spruce Risers with the Salomons but they've currently run out of stock of them. Hope that's right Greco?

yes, we got spruce's last batch and sold out shortly after. spruce isn't making more until at least next season. and there aren't many of the pro series left either.

Everyone here has been a BIG help! Thank you! :D

BTW are there any ladies out there who can recommend comfortable ski boots that I can stand up straight in and won't kill my calves/shins?

It hard to say. You really should just go out to a store and try on a whole bunch. Look for comfort. Make sure they aren't small but not too big. Lean forward a bit after tightening them to get a feel for the flex. IMHO, boots a purely about the rider's comfort.

I agree, while Im not a girl, I just went to a bunch of local sports shops and found what felt most comfortable to me, I think thats the easiest way to go. That way if you know what they feel like before you get them.

Yea. Unless you are a die-hard skiier, you don't need the 200 dollar boots. More times than not, I find a good pair of boots on consignment, [already used incase you dont know :P], that are cheaper then brand new, still in very good condition [I think it is very hard to break a boot lol], and already broken in so they are more comfortable.

Seriouly if i saw a female on some Revel 8's in a lift line I would probably be thinking to myself that she knows what shes doing. Then I would go talk to her because if she's on Revel 8's she most likely knows about sbol or is at least with someone who does

If you notice you are one of the first persons riding sboards on the hill, you should expect people to ask questions.

The questions I got the most are:

"What are those?" ,
"Those are the biggest Snowblades I've ever seen!!."
"Wow, you customize those yourself??"
and "Where do you get em??"

I always correct them.

How come there's no female shirts with R8 on it? I like the sweatshirts..! I think Greco should make some Revel 8 shirts for females. I'd surely buy it! :D
