i'm sorry, customs is different for every country. maybe one of our Canadian forum members can help you by sharing their experiences.

i'm not Canadian, but i deal a lot with import/export.

looking at the Canada duty schedule for snow skis, skis are duty free, but if you bought bindings too, then the duty rate looks to be 7% x the value of the bindings. i'm not sure what other fees Canada Customs will hit you with.

For what it's worth if you have to fill out forms, the Harmonized Tariff #s are:

skiboards (downhill skis) = 9506.11.1000
bindings (ski fastenings) = 9506.12.0000.

DHL (who Greco uses) will probably process Customs for you and add their service to the Customs fees, so you might want to call them to get an idea.

Hope this helps.

for international shipments we use www.usps.com it's so much cheaper and really reliable. the only problem is outside of Canada and the UK the tracking isn't good. for Canada you can track using the Canadian Post website for the UK you use ParcelForce.

I hope this answers your question.

I have made two purchases this season from Greco which were both shipped United States Parcel Service (USPS) into Canada:

Purchase including freight of $465.65 US cost $44.86 CDN for GST, PST & Handling Fee payable to Canada Post. Or approximately $.096 CDN for each $1 US.

Purchase including freight of 332.20 US cost $18.38 CDN for GST, PST & Handling Fee payable to Canada Post. Or approximately $.055 CDN for each $1 US.

Note that no duty or excise tax was charged and the handling fee was $8 CDN in both cases. The difference between the two purchases is a result of declared value and will differ by product type.

I make many purchases south of the border and the USPS is by far the best value. I consistently have delivery within 7 days (Tanshos with bindings within 3 days is the record) which is no longer than UPS or FEDEX and the cost is substancially lower than UPS. On a recent purchase from Walk-EZ that only UPS delivery was available, the fees equalled nearly 50% of the product's price in Canadian dollars. ($67 CDN for the Walk-EZ and $38 CDN for the fees, ouch!)

Greco has made it very afordable to import into Canada by using USPS.

By the way, tracking on the Canada Post web site has been as good as UPS. Note that if you use the USPS website to track, it will not provide status once in Canada. But using Canada Post's web site permits tracking on the entire route.

slight off the main topic, but in the Uk you can only track your order to the point that is has left Uk customs. If you want to know where it is after that, go on the Parcelforce website and enter the shipping number that you get from the USPS email into the tracker and it will tell you where in the Uk it is.

just a little tip.
