View Full Version : Any euro car enthusiasts? or just car enthusiasts?

Anyone around here into european cars? (saab, volvo, bmw, vw, mercedes, etc, etc, etc) Or just cars, for that matter?

I own-
1982 VW Rabbit diesel (5 speed)
1988 VW Scirocco 16v (5 speed)

The rabbit was my daily driver until it blew its head gasket last week (have to get around to that), the scirocco is my project. I almost bought a '91 Isuzu pickup today, for a vehicle to drive. The scirocco should be fun when I put the clutch and new transmission in, I intend on autocrossing it. If anyone cares, I can post up pics of both. The rabbit is soon to be a turbodiesel.

So, any other car enthusiasts?

Pics it is!
'82 diesel rabbit, mega slow, but fun as hell. Love hearing the little engine scream when I'm running 3rd gear up to like 55 (which is a lot with this thing, it seems)

I also have a thing for cassette tapes-

German cars are the best...our family is kind of into them.

Right now we have a 2001 BMW 330 convertable and a 2000 porsche boxster.

Hopefully soon I will be getting a Porsche 944 s2. They are my favorite.

I know its not german but my car right now is a 96 maxima...

VWs rock long life span. Minus parts cost. I am driving a 96 jetta 2.0 ....500,000 clicks. The odometer resets to 0 after 350,000

I dont know why people bother putting $20,000 into their $5,000 dollar car.....:p Yeah it looks nice and the cops like you. But a car is for traveling point a----b and hauling skiboard gear..

hamradio

Well, old vw parts aren't that expensive. Parts for your jetta seem to be more than parts for a rabbit. For instance, a clutch kit for the rabbit or scirocco is about 90 bucks. Clutch kit for your jetta is $150 or more.

219k miles on the rabbit, 189k miles on the scirocco.

2004 VW Jetta Turbo Diesel (5 speed) just hit 100k miles with it.

Edit: Scratch that i totaled it:eek:

1998 VW Jetta Turbo Diesel,
With a greasecar kit installed so it runs on used vegetable oil. FREE FULE

V-Dub is the way to go....my parents wouldnt let me convert mine to grease.

That would be sweet to do. mmmm fries and chicken wings.

I had an old diesel golf and the floor caved through with rust. ...RIP

Its nice when you have the Fred Flinstone thing going.. :p

Tyberesk, In my opinion, it is actually good that you don't convert to grease. Vegetable oil is really hard on injection pumps. I am all for grease cars, but not crazy about what it does to the inside of the bosch ve pumps. If you want to run veggie fuel, run biodiesel. I intend on running my rabbit on biod next summer.

Great decision with the TDI! TDI pwns hybrid, IMO.

tdis with 100 grand miles still retail for like 20k...they hold their value like crazy....i wish vdub would have stuck with the old jettas instead of making them a bigger more family oriented car. The jetta was perfect as it was (well only the tdi)

hamradio
11-19-2007, 03:17 PM
I do wish tdi's weren't quite so expensive. Even like a '98 with 250k miles is $5k plus.

My realistic dream diesel vw would be a black '91 or '92 Jetta Turbodiesel (not tdi)l

JoeyAncz

mine only has 65 thousand miles. so i has a long life left. n the grease gets heated so it goes through the injectors better. i dont know much about cars, but it seams that greasecar has a pretty good system they sell. put 10 thousand miles of grease on it so far with no problems.

filtering the used oil can get a little greasy but in my eyes and my dads eyes its worth the little work.

my dad drives a old ford F250 with a greasecar kit instaled
he also heats a few of the appartments he rents out with a used Vegetable oil burner.

Grease is the way to go.:)

Ok. Just heard that the tdi pump is not the most veg oil friendly thing in the world. How true that is, I do not know. I've seen some instances where guys have put tons of miles on with veg oil in a tdi.

As for my old rabbit, I'm not going to run veg oil. Not practical for me, as my commute to school is about 5 mi, and I'd almost be there by the time the oil is warmed up. Biodiesel, though, I will run, in summer. I'll make it myself.

As for used oil burners, another one of my projects has been messing with oil burners, converting them to run on used veg oil, motor oil, etc.

Anyone any out around tdiclub.com or vwvortex.com?

I do think it is so cool to see the euro car owners are here. Audi/vw is my favorite, for sure.

Nice TT, as well.

Yeah the new jettas look like crap. I like the look of the 2000 era TDIs. I like the interior better too. I do hate the damn cup holders in the older Vdubs. Only fits a can of pop or med coffee.....Barely.

I like cars not much of a big fanatic but I do own a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It was my Grandfather's toy in the the late 60s that he told me grandmother he sold in 1971. He stored it away and my uncle and I restored it after it sat in storage for 35 years. It's currently blue with white racing stripes. Classic color.

gotta love american muscle - one of my first cars was a '65 Chevy Malibu, Viper blue with white racing stripes - sick ass ride.

the R8s are cool too but I can think of better ways to spend $130k+ like a nice slightly used Ferrari or Lambo

YES! I'm on my tenth car in six years but I think this one is here to stay, my '95 M3 in dakar yellow...I'll snap some pictures out in the garage later. One of my favorite cars I've had.

As far as German cars go, I had a 95 SL600 before (couldn't afford to keep it an I over-extended on buying it in the first place) and before that had a pair of Porsche 944's - an '83 and an '86 turbo.
