Hi all,
I am looking for used skiboards for my beginner boys, ages 8 and 11. The places that we ski do not rent any decent skiboards and we could used some respectable, used equipment to get us through this winter and maybe the next.
Also, I am going to buy new skiboards for myself. Being a figure skater, I got the skiboard bug because I kept trying to do figure-skatey things on my stinkin' long skis. I am a bit of an equipment snob having experienced the benefits of very high quality figure skates, but I'm not looking to do any outrageous tricks in the park any time soon. I am 5'9" and 135lbs. Any advice on the matter would be appreciated as well as leads on used equipment.
Thanks so much.
Watch ebay for some snowjam 75's or 90's, some old grooves would be good too, or the older model lines. you'll definitely want to get something with 4-hole bindings, so if (when) they want something nicer and/or longer, they can just buy boards and move the bindings over. That would be especially nice if you got something that had a old pair of FF Pro bindings (or similar) since that all-metal aluminum will last much longer than the boards.
edit: here's something on ebay you could watch, decent boards with those nice aluminum bindings http://cgi.ebay.com/Line-Skiboards-89-C-with-Twin-Tips-and-Carrying-Case_W0QQitemZ290185416488QQihZ019QQcategoryZ1303Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem wouldn't be bad

I dont think you will find any decent used stuff. Most people love their boards so much they continue buying them. The few that do sell, do it in order to buy more boards.
If you invest in some decent boards now you will have them for years anyways.
Your boys sound a great height for the 75s, While you sound like you would enjoy the ALLZ or some tanshos.
Dont forget that american dollar is low.....:D

Revel8 .Bantams (http://www.skiboardsonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=revel8_skiboards) for the kids would be ideal I'm sure, should last too and two fantastic designs to choose from.
Or SnowJam 75s would be a cheaper option

wow, I am grateful for all the advice here!
I'll have to look into the suggestions. I'm still not convinced on new equipment for the boys, but if I can't find decent used stuff out there I might have to go for it. I think there will some skiboards under the tree this year...
Thanks again for the input.
