I'm planning on hot-waxing a couple pairs of boards this weekend, and I'm wondering what a good temperature is to set the iron for melting the wax. I got the SKS iron from SBOL and will be applying XKI universal wax. Any other tips would also be appreciated.

The wax iron temperature is correct when the wax melts without smoke being generated. Note that the temperature you set the iron at will depend on the ambient temperature and you will need to adjust depending if you are in a cold or heated garage.

Sometimes the wax comes with a temperature "recommended setting". I turn the iron up mid way, and i never have had any problems.
