i just came back from skiboarding today and that placed was packed!! anyway,i've never skied in this area before in Western washington(its called Summit Snoqualmie) and their chairlift line lane were narrow and icy, i can't even stand sideways and move forward so i won't slide. it was a pain trying to get to the chairs. so i was wondering if anyone of you uses poles just for the liftlines and what type do you use? regular or the telescoping ones?

Skiboarding 101 poles are for suckers.

Try making a "T" with you boards and pushing yourself.

Manlenium, I think you missed the part where he said it was too packed/narrow to turn sideways. Sometimes you just gotta make do with what's around you. Having poles for the liftline is personally too much work for me. I just figure out something and do what I have to each time. Every line is different.

i grab onto people get them to drag me up.

no im joking.

Are there any ropes/bars on the side to hold onto?

poles are pretty much looked down upon when skiboarding, unless you're going heavily off-piste...although you could break the mould and sb with poles...nothing wrong with a bit of uniqueness.

there are some telescopic poles you can get, designed for snowboarders to get along flat bits, they pack down small in your bag or clip on your boot when not using them, can't remember where you get 'em but try googling it

Ask a skier behind you if you can borrow one pole just while in line and explain why. (I use one of my wife's if I need one.) Give it back once you make it to the gate.

Alternatively, take off the skiboards while in line and put them back on when you are at the gate where you have something to hang onto.

I have also been know to shift the fences a few inches every time I enter the lift line. After a few runs they accommodate the need to hockey stop or T. Remember that lifties who set up the fences generally have no clue as to what our needs are as skiboarders. If they ask what I am doing, I explain that I am making it safer for me and other skiboarders. I never get any hassle after the explanation.

I have a moral opposition to poles, and so I just skate through the line. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Plus because you're riding on 90s you shouldn't have to worry about hitting your boards together/hitting other people.

thanks for the replies. i tried that skating way but its just to narrow to do it but i did tried walking it in and it works until i get to the more icier section. i would normally hold on to the PVC poles they have without pulling it out(i pulled 2 of them unintentionally then kindda moved it farther lol). most of the liftlines i've been were much more spacier and its easier to get to the chairs but some are not. i did survived the day though with some help. i just thought that it would be okay to have one just for that issue without damaging our image. i'll google that one telescoping pole and hopefully its affordable. thanks again.

on occasion they sell telescoping poles on www.steepandcheap.com , but its rare. If you arn't familiar with that site they sell items greatly discounted (more than 50 percent), but they only post up one item at a time, until its sold out. Once its sold out it might reappear on the site again in a few days, or never.

No, i saw. Most times the lines im in are 1metre or less (various conditions). (sometimes 50cm) The T becomes smaller , so it eventually turns into a V drawn with your bad hand. The trick is one foot forward, and using other foot edge yourself forward. You can use obstacles if need be...:p
