Are you having trouble deciding which Revel8 Skiboard to get?... I sure had trouble!! So I bought the Revolts, BWP's & Tansho's! Now it was time to ride each one and really make a decision, there is a total of 3 of us who skiboards in my family and we all were ready to upgrade anyways, so that was the reason I went ahead and purchased all the boards.
I have been skiboarding for 4-5 years on Canon M7's 99cm non release bindings and love them, but it was time to upgrade. I wanted more stability & speed but not loose manueverability. I am 5'4" female and 135-142 lbs. former skier prior to skiboarding and converted with no learning curve or issues what so ever.
First up to ride; the 105cm Revolt's (Chicken) Bomber non release bindings.... no issues at all with my height using non release on these boards first of all.
Two words to describe the Revolt's, FAST & STABLE. I can only imagine what the Alps or Sherpa's are like! I felt like I was on my long skis again with the speed and stability they had, but, (yes there is a but), I did loose some of my manueverablity and my legs certainly felt the length difference... in other words my legs got tired which they never did on my Canon's. When doing those super fun 360 spins... it was a little awkward and not as free flowing. I was not clanking the boards together like I thought I would be doing, nor was I crossing them over like you can do with normal skis. So with the Revolt's at 105cm I got my speed and stability that I was lacking in my M7 99cm, but felt I lost some manuverability. With that said... I know after another full day or two I will probably regain that manuverability because I will have gotten used to them. They will be good boards for long runs, fresh snow and for just bombing down runs for sure!
Second up to ride; the 90cm Tansho's using my old M7 non release bindings on these. I rode these the second half of the day after riding the Revolts and as soon as I was strapped up on the Tansho's I felt like 'I was home'... they felt very natural and comfortable and just feltl ike and had my good ole M7's on really. So, how did they ride? Perfectly. Better than my M7's and they were FAST & STABLE & yes very manuverable! They are very underrated! No they are not as fast as the Revolt's, but not by much! The Tansho's surpassed my expectations!
They will be great for anyday except the fresh powder.
But, I was very very eager to ride the BWP's since they, to me, seem to be right in the middle of the longer Revolts and shorter Tansho's and even closer to what I have been used to riding. I have no desire to ride 75cm or anything longer than the Revolts unless they are my normal long skis.
Third up to ride; the 98cm BWP's... have to wait for that review! Wasn't able to ride them yet, but will this Sat the 23rd. There will also be reviews from my husband & brother riding the Revolts & Tansho's as well. They ride 99cm Fischers & Snowjams 90cm. I am also eager to see how my brother compares the Tansho's with his SJ's(he is over 6ft and weighs like I dunno 210 I think).
I'm sure my husband will love the Revolt's, but ya never know he may not.
OK rode the BWP's saturday and it was snowy & powder out all day. The BWP's in deed went in the powder! I was very happy! They too were fast & stable and I certainly could do the 360 spinds(butters). I can say I really liked the flex and found myself doing jumps & landings with more ease. I did not get to try the box, the snowcat was in the terrain park most of the day, and really wasn't up for it when the time came... it was getting really cold & windy.
My brother 6ft 215lbs ride SJ90's and I had him ride the Tansho's while I rode the BWP's. I dunno what happened but he could not ride them!!!!! I felt so bad because he took two big falls and kinda hurt himself to the point of not really wanting to ski much more. dunno if it was the snow conditions or not having the bindings set right to what he was used to. He could not go fast at all and felt like the backs were hitting or crossing each other he said. ??? I dunno. when we got home I compared his binding set on the SJ90's to the set on the Tansho's and there was a difference for sure, so maybe that was it, I dunno but feel really bad!
My husband did't go so he didn't ride the Revolt's like we had planned..next time. But I was tempted to re set those bindings for my boot and try em out in the powder... but my brother was too banged up and the weather was getting ugly fast! next time.
