Hi everyone,

I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time on this forum. I figured I'd make an introduction and voice some thoughts to see what you guys thought.

I currently am a pro inline hockey goalie and play ice hockey sometimes as well. I got out on the mountain the first time on Monday and really enjoyed it.
I was cutting and edging down intermediate slopes in about 10 minutes and even going over some ramps. I tried crappy snowblades and loved them.
I then switched to some skis and after figuring out you have to work much harder with them and not do instant cuts I stopped falling :D
I'm going to try snowboarding in a few weeks but I don't think I'll like it as much as skiboarding because I'm a good skater and a horrible skateboarder.

Anyway I put up a wtb add on the classifieds because I'll need everything but also wanted some opinions before I commit to any gear. I'm 6ft, 185lbs. I think a 105 length board would be good, maybe even a little less. The blades I had were very short and thin but I felt like I had a lot of control...do you have even more control with the wider boards? From what I read if I liked the snowblades I should love a good set of skiboards.

I don't think I'm doing to be doing tons of tricks...seems like just a metal binding and a so-so board set will do me good.

Hope to hear from some people in or were in similar situations. Thanks.

the thing with skiboarding is you dont need a beginner board then an intermediate board etc, if you take care of them they will last you for ages, the 105 would be a brilliant choice for you because of your height, you shouldnt find it too much more difficult to use, however if you are willing to possibly sacrifice some speed, stability, and all mountain goodness then you could reclaim the maneuverability with the bwp (a great park board) or the tansho an extremely fun board with amazing control, you could even turn to the allz or lacroix 99 for that added maneuverability, I have heard good things about the allz and not much yet about the lacroix...

Hope This Helps

Cool, thanks for backing up my thoughts.
The Revel8 Tansho 90cm and Allz 94cm looked good but I didn't know if they would be too short for me. I'm pretty interested in the Allz.

The Lacroix look like they are a short ski to me don't know if I want to go that long.

Man, I keep stacking up the expensive hobbies, lol.

You have a smiliar background to me. i am 6'0 200lbs geared. The BWP is great all around, still gives a shorter board feel and has a bit of extra stability over the Allz/tansho. Thats my top pick.

As a hockey/blader you may find the 105s a bit big as I did. I came down from 105s and got a pair of Tanshos and BWPs. Ive never looked back. The size difference between 90/98 is only really noticed in stability. The tanshos are definatley underated.

I am picking up a pair of 99 Lacroixs. Maybe look into those as well. Sub 100 all the way!!:D

just relealise that with boards come pros and cons, also are you looking at the 99cm or the 110cm lacroix because there are two different lengths that they both look similar, just read a review on the lacroix 99cm and it sounds really good also, check it out reviews of all these different boards in the reviews section, it really helps A LOT!!

Ahh I just saw the shorter Lacroix, I only saw the 110 before.

Thanks Manlenium. The BWP's look really nice and I like the price\size. Your thoughts about the size is helpful too.

There is a new review up on the Altz's and the rider seemed pretty happy with them. I like the size on those too.

I was thinking of doing the Altz 94cm with SnowJam II bindings or the Tansho 90cm with the Groove X1.

Around 300$ is about the maximum I want to spend.

It's just so hard to pick even after reading the reviews since it's hard to imagine when being so new what a good stable or cornering board feels like. That's why I wanted to post this and see if there was anyone similar to me and what I was looking for.

The Allz are a good buy too. I have no experience on them, but everybody who uses them enjoys them. The creator is a skiboard fanatic so they should be great. :D

tend to like boards on the shorter end of the spectum for our size...
Man, and myself, and a few others play hockey, and shorter boards tend to fit our style better...
sounds like the tanshos and allz would be perfect for you.

I had a bunch of cash on amazon I forgot about so I used it to buy some snowjam II bindings, woot!

Now I just need a board and boots.

These are the only boards I see on eBay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=270212839369&Category=1303&_trksid=p3907.m29

Line MNP. I searched on these and no one seems to really think they are all that great. I'll probably pass but do you guys think for under 100$ this would be a good buy?

MNP's would be fine for you in my opinion. No they probably won't have the performance of the BWP or Revolt when it comes to variable conditions etc. But the seller is right in saying that they were some of the best boards in their day.

mnp's are good boards but the revel8 line are amazing i would spend the extra money and get some b-dubs or revolts

zephyr_words

Yeah I was thinking that to myself that I may as well spend the extra hundred and get the Allz since it's something I want to keep for a long time.

if your going to be in the park the b-dub is your best choice because it (as far as i'm aware) is more flexible than the allz

good thinking, especially since the resale should be good tooo, and if you get a good deal on boots

Wow? 10$ boots? How do these look everyone http://www.galacticsnowsports.com/nordica-front-entry-ski-boots-misc.html

They look good, but those pictures are probably what they looked like new, if you can get a picture of the actual boots being sold

jessincase

of course, but they usually wont sent the crap ones out first, i bought "used" boots for my neice last year that showed up with the tags on em :D

And they dont tell you which model, cause it varies, but if nordicas fit your feet what do you really have to lose? and no way you cant sell em for what you paid if they dont.

I went ahead and ordered them. Can't go wrong like you said for 35$ after shipping. Hopefully I get the t31 boot, that one looks the best.

Thats a good buy for under 100 bucks. I would try and get a close up pic of the inserts. Is that a sticker or a chunk missing??:D

I ended up winning it for 82$ after shipping. My Nordica boots came in this week and fit perfect. My bindings should be in soon! I'll buy a better pair of boards next season. These MNP should be good for the one or two times I get to go out until then.

I ended up getting everything for about 150$! Not too shabby.

Nice find, I just ordered a pair. When I rent boots they charge me like $20 so this is a steal.

How are your used boots you got from galactics? The ones they sent me look like they had only been used a few times, just about brand new. They are also all black so they look cool. Was a killer deal for $35.
