I decided to get the old boards out at this weekend and see what kind of shape they were in. I got a cut in the bottoms from getting broke on this branch last year, long story.
But i was looking for tips to tuning up my boards myself, instead of having to go to the local shop and pay money. I know there's tons of different hot waxes and edge sharpeners, but what are the best? what are some tips for getting my boards back to a nice smooth waxiness?
Whenever I wax my boards, i usually just use a block of parafin wax. I just rub it all over the base until it fills all the cracks and stuff. Then I use a washcloth to buff off all the excess wax. I use to hot wax them, but then I realized it doesn't really make much a difference. If you do hot wax, get a flat base iron. My friend got an old one from a garage sale, so we used that. Melt the wax so it drips on the board. Then, use the iron to smooth it out and distribute it. Then you have to use something to scrape off the excess and buff it smooth. Different waxes are made for different weather, but they dont seem to have much a difference either. I never really sharpen the edges, because i know I'll just wear them back down from grinding and stuff. Hope this helped.

If your board is really gouged, wax won't be enough. If you can see any of the core underneath you definitely need to fill the hole in with p-tex. You can get it at any respectable ski retailer. It's kinda like hot wax. I don't know if you can use an iron to heat it up, but I used to just light the p-tex itself on fire and then let it drip into the hole. If the hole isn't very deep, then yeah, hot wax should suffice.
