Ok. I know that you are not supposed to use the risers in the park as thay are not so strong and non-releasables are better for this anyway blah blah (don't want to start another debate about releasables vs non).

but.....I would like to hear from anybody who does actually use risers for doing some tricks and jumps without breaking them. I don't intend to spend all my time in the park but would like to know I can have a little fun with them if I want to.

Has anybody actually broken these bindings or are the manufacturers just covering themselves???

I really want to go non-releasable due to previous injury but I don't want to be restricted to the groomers.

Any help appreciated!!

the only person I know who broke the risers in the park was Adam Lynam. But, the day he did it the temperature was -40 deg. (that's minus fourty!) so that could have had something to do with it = brittle because of the cold.

how much do you weigh? how big do you plan on going?
if both of these answers are small numbers you should be OK. if the numbers go up so do the possibilities of trouble.

Thanks for the reply....I weigh 168lb (5'11") and I don't intend to go mad as I only started skiboarding last year...just want to be able to start doing tricks this year.

i think you'll be OK as long as you don't go real big or jump when it's -40deg F.

Plus, Jeff Singer (owner of spruce) is a really good guy and i'm sure he would work with you if you had a problem with the risers.

Last season I was up to about 225 myself and beat the living piss out of my Spruces (Hey Jeff!) and aside from my own initial light setting screwing me up (popped on some lighter landings)..I had no issues. Especially after twisting them into focus during a stop at the lodge. It takes a couple good solid runs to dial the Spruces in right...only because all of our styles are different. I hit it pretty hard and need them to be a shade or two just under bullet proof. My knees have been in repair since the "Bomber Days" and Jeff's Spruces give me that "screw up room" to play with. I can still hit everything in the park and not worry about popping out of them till I really put my legs into the "oops void" and then I know I've got the spruces on and they work as needed.

So to sum it up..like the Miller "Z"..the Spruce can be dialed way past recommendations (even though the instructions for setting them takes into account for rider rating and experience and such).

Good luck.
