Well the Ponessa's, Ron Buckner and I were able to battle through the rain and fog and ride for the first time of the 2004-2005 season yesterday. Seth came through with a pair of ALP's and as long as the mountain (Jiminy Peak) was open we were going to be there to be the first to tryout the, skiboard envelope pushing, Mix 110cm Adam Lynam Pro (http://www.skiboardsonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SBOL&Product_Code=mix_alynampro&Category_Code=mix) Skiboards.

The ALP's didn't dissapoint, in fact, quite the opposite. These boards could be the best handling/performing skiboards i've ever ridden. The conditions on the mountain were horrible but it didn't matter the ALP's cut through the heavy, wet, slush like it was nothing. The extra length allows you to go faster and with more confidence than ever before. The few trails that were open at Jiminy weren't very wide so it was a shame I couldn't open up the ALP's for some real layed out carving but it was obvious these boards are a carvers dream. You can really feel the extra length when getting in the back seat on turns and when normally I would have either had to work really hard to not fall back or have fallen on my butt the ALP's extra cm's were there catch me and prop me up with little effort. Fakie riding is also a much more stable experience on the ALP's, which was nice since we weren't riding groomed trails, just wet, chopped up man made snow. The only down side I could find to the ALP's was of course because of the extra length it's not as easy to pop super maneuverable short turns but since I love to go fast and carve I didn't mind. Overall these boards are awesome. Great job Adam and Seth!!! I think i've found boards to replace my Brinton Gundersen's, Thanks.

I'll post more pics and vids from the day below.

Did you try the ALP's with the spruce risers as well as the td-1's or just with the canon bindings?

Greco

sorry, yes i rode with the spruce setup in the morning and the td1's in the afternoon. i had no problems with either configuration. if you're worried about getting hurt i recommend the spruces, if you're not then you know what to do *wink*

just a provoking one:
how long will it take to twin-tips?

don't get me wrong, i have nothing against it. it's just ironical enough - arguing against skis but getting excited about extra lenght on skiboards. but i'm looking forward to try out alp's in alps ;)

if some ski companies made some really wide (skiboard wide) skis that where shorter then we'd have some thinking to do i guess but right now the specs of the ALP's make them skiboards but just a bit longer. i know when i was on them i felt like i was skiboarding not skiing. (did that for 11 years and will never go back)

This is just MY OPINION here but...

Skiboards will remain skiboards as long as they can remain at or under 120cm''s, they keep the extra width that skis do not have, and they maintain an exact middle stance with true twin tips. Twin tips in general start in the 140 range as anything under that is considered a junior ski and not meant for an adult's weight / height. They also do not have the extra width (yet anyway) that skiboards currently have. The trend to make skiboards longer and skis wider will continue more than likely, but anything longer than 120cm's even with the extra width would pretty much toss them into the twin tip catagory.

yes but could you imagine a twin tip with the width of a skiboard, that wouldnt look right surely.

sick shit grex....
im super stoked on the review, and im glad my brainchild worked out for the most experienced skiboard guru around...

just so everyone knows i didnt design these boards specifically for carving... they are going to dominate on jumps and rails as well. if you need to get that extra ooomph from a skiboard, this my friends is your choice!!!!!

glad everything is working out... you preorder guys will have your boards within the week!!!!
and boards will be on sale to everyone else very soon!!!

think snow!!!

I rode the boards on Sunday too and I'll tell you what they are so reliable. like Greco said you can sit in the back seat without falling and without using so much leg work. They're a pair of boards for lazy people you could say. At first i wasnt able to get a good feel for the boards the visability wasnt too good but by the end of the day before Greco took them back from me(which i didnt really liek too much but i was testing Jeff's Edges) i was able to go faster and get a better feel for the boards and it was sick. If your looking for a good board with not only great carving ability but like Adam said will be great for park and rail when they come around then these are the boards for you.

hm, if i look on them, no-way - ALP's are not like skis, its like real skiboard, and IT IS a real skiboard no matter its 110cm, just look at them all in family - Groove, Canon MIX, they all are skiboards, i was wondering about that lenght(110cm) now i am not, THEY ARE great!

and, i thin with non-rel. bindings its ok too, just ride!

probably this should be brought to a new thread, since it does not address alp's directly. anyhow, i just start contemplating on the sport....
naturally the devices (skiboards and skis) should follow the needs of riders. if skiboards are preferred longer and twin-tps wider, sooner or later they would meet at some lenght/width, right? or do you think there is a distinct line where skiboards will never ever go longer (as preferred by riders) and skis will stay narrow as they are today?
i'm not defending or opposing any of the positions. i used to ski for some 14 years before i swithced to skiboards. but i did it not because it was called 'skiboards' but because it would fulfill my desire for freedom on the slopes. having that background, i still see some deficiencies (primarily the limited lenght ;) ). and now it's kinda confusing, bearing in mind that for a long while skiboards have been defined as anything below 100cm.
what i actually believe, it does not matter how we call the thing (except 'snowblades' :D) and what dimensions it has, as long as it fits our needs and provides us the ultimate pleasure on snow, huh!?
