i used a vhs crappy ass video camara..but getting a digital camara soon..
get a dig. camara at around 250-300 bucks....and u'll be set...
I have a sony handicam digi8 from a couple years back. Its pretty small and I like it better than those tiny ones because you can actually keep it stable. Its also good cause you can get a lot of lens attachments in that size.
Theres tons of better cams out there, but this one was cheap and had everything i need.

it depends on what you want to do with the footage. if it's just for high quality stills for web and basic vid edits go with a high quality digital still camera that shoots .mov video. If it's for professional videos then get a miniDV camera for sure. You might want to get both.
I have an Olympus C-3040zoom digital and a Canon ZR80 miniDV. They are both really compact and great for on mountain shooting.

I own a Sony VX2000 camcorder and it blows every other corder I've seen out of the water.... but its pricey! I got lucky and got mine on Ebay for 1/3 of the price...used but like new! I've had it for a year now.
its not too big for the mountain. When you go out to shoot on the mountain you usually dont ride at the same time. theres a filmer with a backpack full of camcorder gear =)
all of my White Dwarf section was shot on my VX2000...except a few shots.
I had a smaller sony camcorder before my VX and boy am I glad I switched.
ohh...shit - thats the thing man!
i wish i could get such thing!!!!
so, you have 3ccd, does Ben have it too?
just there is writen - about WD - its filmed by 8mm and 3ccd !
so - this is that camera ? :D

yep thats the one!
and all credits for my section's filming goes out to my skiboarding brother-in-law =) he's getting pretty darn good!
now If I can get around to buy a Digital Reflex photo camera (Canon EOS or Nikon D70) it would be heaven on earth =)
