As much as we'd all like to see skiboading return to the x-games, I just don't see it happening any time soon. Mainly because skiboarding is no longer at a level of progression comparable to that of skiing or snowboarding. As well, ESPN are just a bunch of corportate assholes who don't want to "waste their time" hosting and televising a sport that most people think is a lame, easy version of skiing. So until skiboarding can distinguish itself as its own sport and reach a comparable level to newschool skiing and snowboarding, I don't see it getting back into the x-games.
Do you compreeeeeehend mr. Jeff Miles?

Honestly, we don't know if we don't try...
What we probably need to do is unite the whole skiboarding community or at least as many people as we possibly can.
Someone needs to type a letter to ESPN explaining the dissapointment for skiboarding not being in the x-games any longer, and why it should be there. (example.... x-games roots began with non mainstream or underground extreme sports and skiboarding definitely fits into this catagory) The letter needs to explain new developments within the sport, some riders that are standing out above the rest and possibly include their e-mail addresses etc.. This letter would need to be gone over into depth and mailed to them via USPS as well as via e-mail. Then the hard part..... the waiting game. We need to be patient for a response... they will give one. No professionally run cooperation that wants to succeed would ever let something like this go bye without at the very least a consideration letter.
Then we need to step it up to level 2...
This is where you make a post on the forum (message board) both here and on skiboards.com (mainly to widen the fan base) asking for people to digitally sign their names and e-mail addresses as an online petition to get skiboarding back into the x-games. Once a certain amount of time passes and the thread('s) lengthen we then need to e-mail ESPN once again with a link to the threads. This will bring their attention to it and at the very least make them take it into some sort of consideration.
The X-games are and have always been for the spectators. They don't even charge you for admission which is unheard of these days. I had the pleasure of going to the summer x games when they were in Philadelphis for 2 years and they were great. Anyone who would say that they don't care about what the fans want to see sure as hell hasn't been to one I can tell you that much. All we can do is try, and if there is enough people out there that believe in it strongly they will more than likely give the fans what they want.

Dude you got some awesome ideas there, but instead of someone else writing the letter, step up and take charge. Based on your post I can see that you are a pretty good "writer". Get a hold of some of the top riders, get their email adresses and write it man. I'm sure every person on here would help you out to the best of their abilities. I know I would.
Peace,
Alex

I'd have no problem writing the letter or even taking part in some of the research however, I'm extremely new to skiboarding and I'm probably not the most qualified to be taking on such a task. The writing part isn't an issue, the research part isn't an issue with the sole exception that I am on limited time to do it so it would take a rather long time to complete, The inner workings of skiboarding is where I am not qualified. Trick names, descriptions, etc.. would not be my strong point whatsoever especially since the closest thing I've done to a trick on a pair of skiboards is a 180 without ever leaving the ground....lol Sure I can carve some, and I can even go down the black diamonds, but I used to ski a LONG time ago too. Anyhow, back on topic.... I'm simply not the best qualified for the job is what it comes down to.

i wrote to espn, geuss what, they didnt reply. i know people think skiboarding is a easy version of skiing but to be honest thats bollocks. It will return one day, i think they just have to see it get bigger and progress quicker and they will bring it back in. I Dont think they really care whats in it, they j ust care how much money there making out of it. I Think it was this year that they took out inline park because there wasnt enough people watching.

The last thing that skiboarding needs right now is a place in the X-Games.
What do you think the X-Games would do to benefit skiboarding as a whole?
ESPN doesn't respond to phone calls and petitions.... ESPN responds to LOTS of money.
I agree with Kev on this one. This whole X-games thing has been played out for awhile, and personally I would rather us be a tight knit group of underground heads whose gatherings and contests amoungst ourselves grow and grow until they start talking to US. I dont want to be branded and talked about on TV. I don't want to be on chocolate bars and mountain dew cans. I want to be able to rip with my friends and progress the sport from the inside out, and not get thrown into the circus that is ESPN... Believe me, it's the last thing we need right now.
But regardless, the effort is commendable!
Have a good season boys!

haha jeff you monkey, i told you! like i said the espn care about money and not much else.
so, just remember then - if - and i think it will be - skiboarding will be BIG, and ESPN will start asking some of us to do sumtin in it, something comercial shit - then we need to say to ESPN : "fuck off"....hahaa...piss them off..when they will aks us, hm, but maybe they dont...
so the point is - we dont need ESPN, this underground status i liek very much - even better that there would be tons of ultra stylich young bustards who just ride skb because of popularity - no - we need pure sport - not some crap from ESPN !
yee...;) am i right?

yes but espn will come to us when alot of people are doing the sport and this is because they want to, once it goes into the xgames then yes probably will be quite wannabeish but then again may not. Just saying but ive only got 33 hours im off to france.

woot go kirk "fuck espn" i love it it should be your new catch frase. but seriously people we should use corparate sabotage we should plant bombs at all the major snowboard and skiing companies and also one at espn. then maybe since they'll have to spend so much money to repair and recoup all their losses we can then buy our way into the x-games.
umm so thats the plan...fuck line too

oh one more thing this one is actually serious. ben is right, before i even read that post i was gonna say something upon those lines.
so im just gonna compile a list on
why "Im proud to be a skiboarder"
1 its fucken fun
2 its really fucken fun
3 its underground
4 its like a being in a close family (i have never gotten any shit from another skiboarder)
5 im not another Shaun White clone
6 i get shit about being one... but it only makes it cooler
7 i get to be more active with the pros (woot go Ben and Adam)
8 its NOT in the X-games
9 we have some of the best people running the sport, NO not the isf but the retailers and producers (woot go Greco, Doc, and Seth keep it up)
10 this sport isnt media controlled, we dont have an x-games or mtn dew sponsors, we are all still pure and not corrupted by $$$ we all have the same passion just to be on top of the world for the few seconds before we go down it.

If anyone wants to come to Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Joi Clothing will get a comp organized at Perfect North Slopes.. Just an idea..let me know if you're interested. Comp would have to be park only, everything else there sucks

We are already organizing a "skiboarder day" at PNS, but if anyone else is interested we could make it an official comp.

I have been having a big problem with some of the shit i have been seeing on this board the last little while. whats with everyone on here, coming up with this shit like fuck line, fuck espn, fuck this fuck that. like common. i don't like fruit loops but you don't hear me on here saying fuck fruit loops. where do you think this is gonna get us. obviosly espn isn't the thing for skiboarding, obviosly line is now a ski company. this is known by everyone on this baord, yeah line didn't make the money to keep producing a bunch of different model skiboards and still produce 6 or 7 twin tip skis a year, so what did they do, they went with the highest demand, majority rules. would you put money into a market when you knew another market that you were in would make you more money? honestly. i have read like 8 different threads on here since this board started bashing line, face it they are gone and no matter how much bitching you do they aren't coming back, i'm with ben kev and bailey on the x games. do you wanna be riding a round with a coke logo on ur helmet, and some big wig that has never touched a pair of skiboards in his life telling you what to do.
we are at a really great point here, we have the oppurtunity to make or break this sport, after white dwarf came up, i realised that skiboarding has a future, its just gonna be what we make of it. I give mad props to everyone in the vid all the guys are ripping it, its something different, different is great. we are the future of this sport, but by always coming back to this same arguement shows what is limiting us all from greatness, we are to wrapped up with what has happened in the past. everyone gets screwed over by something at one point or another, its wether it makes you stronger or breaks you. I just think in order for us all to step to the next level we have to get passed what everyone else has done, and concentrate on what you want to do, you have the body you have the skiboards and you have the hill, no one can take that from you. what else more can you really ask for?
Christian
12-05-2004, 10:57 AM
hmm what else could i ask for? money and snow. cause with out those two things i cant skiboard.
and the fuck line was just a joke note how in that was in the very same post where i was talking about blowing up espn and major companies. so jus chill

I have to agree with Jonny W... The way I see it skiboarding is entering in a second phase of expansion following the first one characterized by the fact that skiboarding was a true innovation. We now have the chance to make skiboarding a well-establishd reality in the snow sports world. We can't make the same mistake again, let large industries and the media take over and then give-up seeing there is little global interest and therefore little possibility to get some money out of it. Skiboarding has never been ready for X-Games, and this is obvioulsly proven by the fact that it lasted a ridiculously short period of time (in proportion to other sports). We have to face the fact that we're small, and thus make an advantage out of this as we have great potential to grow larger.
It's all up to us... Riders, stop the fussing and moaning and get your asses on the snow to show what you can do on our so called toothpicks...

Not sure what this is all about, but I think its Sports Illustrated sponsored. Other mountains have similar events scheduled.

I know and agree with everyone’s feelings about corporate bullshit, but if someone out there goes out and kicks some serious ass on Skiboards at one of these events, it would be a nice "I told you so".

Yeah. Saw that part, but I figured there's a wide enough age range here that someone somewhere could probably do it.
