oh shit, whats happening...damn!
i am who just cant tell lies...and i cant be quiet, sorry all who was in film, sorry Ben sorry sorry sorry...
..:(, but ok, THIS IS first look feeling - and i hope this is : ...ok, the THING is , i was expecting sumtin more, something better, something much sicker..
just all this about movie, all talks, all was waiting, all who know sumtin said this will be sickest thing, NUT it isnt, sorry, i watched it and i wasnt looking with open mouth! i didnt feel enough energy in film!
damn, i hope iam not sick...i have no temperature, i have no headache - so - i am fine, and this what i am saying is what i FELT -
i felt better when i whatced Biohazards, i saw TPKD and those 2 was ... t hey have a soul in it..in WD i didnt feel it and i didnt saw what i expected!
sorry for my words, but i cant say: hell ye this is the best movie, i am not a lier!
<this is my opinion, and WD was watching my friend snowboarder, and he didnt say any BIG words - he just said, ah ye , yes hm...ok...its nice, but not good! NOTE: he is not skiboard hater, he know i like skiboarding, he rode with me some times, he dont make disrespect BUT, that was opinion form other side - from snowboarders...and he didnt make me think like he mean about WD, i get that feeling while watching it, there was some episodes when i felt ...hm.. bored, and i was waiting when there will be speed, jumps, freeride...fast,energetic music, but ..ah, ok! THIS is Bens work, this is his art,
AND I REALY RESPECT all this work. but its just fine, not AWESOME !
peace...

allz...
of course you are intitled to your opinion... but maybe you didnt really watch closely all of the technical tricks that were in the video. did you not like the format? the music? or the riding...
in my opinion, and not because im in the movie, this movie has the most progressive rail tricks ever seen in the sport... really pay close attention to what is going on in every trick. given, other movies such as MMVM and TPKD have some better jump and free ride footage, i think that in the standards of all that is skiboarding, this movie is top two!!!
hit back and let us all know exactly what you thought could have been done better!!!
word up,
lynam
yes righ!
this is it, this is new era of RAIL skiboarding, urban style, ok! i like it, but then... where are those awesome tricks like BIG-AIR, some freeride stuff, some trees...
i saw u adam, killin some BIIIG jumps, but no so much in this movie! :(
ok, i know technice - i know that is hard, all those tricks to make is fucking hard, but some things was empty !
mucis, oh yes - that was about mucis, 2 times in movie i felt boring, that was from music, like little baby will go sleep...like...babysongs...ok, 1 such song - ok - but if that takes some more than 1 or 2 minutes its not good for movie speed,
i know there must be up-speed and down-speed in movie - i mean - aggressive episodes and then soft and up and down, but there was too much -downspeed - soft, YES too soft!
rails was awesome, yes, but - there miss those things i said!
realy, work is good, but with such a rider army like you were in those trips, shit - i wanted more!
p.s. i dont ask do this or that, or do like TPKD or some else, but, just feelings was not from best i would like to be! i will watch it again and again, but firs time i saw it, i was sad:(

no worries allz... and thanks for the compliment...
you would have to personally know ben to understand his music selection and "artsy" feel to the movie...
he pulled out all the stops for this movie and didnt try to make it anything like any other movie... he did everything absolutely 100% his way, and made it exactly how he envisioned his perfect movie...
personally, because i have relitively the same attitude as ben, i think this movie is perfect... but we cant please everyone now can we???!?!?!?!
its all good man, i hope you take something from the movie that stokes you out and either makes you want to go out and charge and learn something you saw, or imagine something new for your self!!!
good luck,
lynam
yes -true! this film makes me THINK!!! maybe that is Ben's move - he makes THINK! hehe :D
yes, i got sumtin from it, and i am thinking about my perfect movie!
and if i would make movie i would do like Ben, MAKE MY OWN shit, my own style, my own vision;)
ok, if i look in this case -Ben have it - HIS own ;)
but all other thing u know, what i said before! but you took me on the way, adam, thanks..
..ok, i didnt felt so good while watching it, but it makes me thinking more and more! i hope to hear some more ppl saying about this!
i like to hear +good thing and -bad thing!
if i will make movie, i will need for such inf. - to know - what u like and what not
peace !
;)
almost forgot - THIs is Ben birthday!!!! ;)
big up Ben, keep it rolling....

this is a message from ben... hes having trouble posting again....
Allz, Whats up dude. First of all, i appreciate your critisicm and not buying into all the hype.... the fact that your going against the grain i can appreciate... even if the grain is ben-stoke, i can still appreciate you doing your own thing... so for that, thanks...... On a personal note, when i watch this video, i can't help but feel a little bad because this was an INCREDIBLY selfish peice of 'work' that i made (along with a ton of help).
I made this video to fit the mold of something i would want to watch over and over... my own personal music taste, my own personal camera angles/editing tricks
so this was what I wanted, and im sooo happy that so many people are stoked..... and all im saying right now is that if you dont get stoked on watching the incredibly technical jibbing in the flick, what do you think about ethans section? 60 foot switch backflip 180s? the kid is cookoo!! and how about the 50 foot rollercoaster he did? and lynam's 60 ft underflip liu kangs and techy rail riding??? i mean, i watch this video and look at sickness/tpkd, and see no resembalence.... the tricks, difficulty, and stuff the tricks are being done on, (in my mind) has never been seen before in the skiboard world...... and once again, the editing style/music was all what i wanted to see.... and it totally reflects my style.... so for that im completely stoked with how it turned out
so in the end dude, i appreciate your critisicm, and thanks to everyone for there support, late...
b
i watched the film 3 times again! 1 of them with all inline riders crew, and i get a point about rails.
ok, rails are best here - never seen on others - right - THAT is THE BIG SHIT - awesome!;)
some editing and art things - too- cool-very nice!
But me, and 4 of those 5 inliners where thinking, that there is no speed,no such energy and some music is not in the speed etc. etc. , BUT its just opinion, and the RIGHT thing is THE RIGHT what Ben have maded...
...so, Ben - i am not against what u did, but i just tell: what ME myself feel about it!
ok...peace!

All the cool places and sick tricks aside.......I'd have to say that the dude partying way too hard and yacking his guts out was one of the funniest and best things in the movie. I was laughing so hard....probably cause i've been to that point a few times as well...lol

thanks for all the reviews. reading through some of the posts brought me to voice my own thoughts and ideas about the final product of white dwarf. ben worked his skinny little ass off for 2+ years to document the best of the best of what was happening in skiboarding in these past 2 years, and he did a hell of a job with that. but what was more important was that ben had a vision, he wanted a certain feel and a certain style that doesnt come by often in extreme sports movies. when we were in utah on the last shoot we got to talk seriously about what he wanted out of the film, and ben was passionate and 100% about what he wanted. he captured this from the smallest details in the technique and format of filming to the last few weeks of the project when we were sitting down editing the thing. what ben accomplished was the best of what there is out there in skiboarding today, and when we put the final thing together ben nailed that. ben liked some things that were done in biohazards, and wanted some of those things done more in the editing of wd. for example ben let me have a little freedom in the art section, producing something similar to the mellow super 8 artsy section in biohazards. the point is that ben knew what he wanted out of the film. ben wanted it to be HIs movie. he had a point for everything that was done in the film. this is not present in other skiboarding films, even biohazards. biohazards was epic, but we were unexperienced amatures jamming evertyhing alltogether with music selections that were only decided by what we were able to use and sections and editing that had no order, no point. when you watch wd try to focus on the editing and the details. you will see that there is much more to it than any previous skiboard movie. this brings up another point. its all you guys that are posting on this board who are directing the sport of skiboarding. maybe there was a reason that you didnt see as many jumps and trees and freeriding in the movie. im being brutally honest, but there was a lack of this present because as of right now, skiing is doing all of that. we all know that its more logical to ski powder than skiboard powder, or to ride pipe, or session 80 foot tables on skis than skiboards. the previous big guns in skiboarding have moved on to skiing, where they are doing all that. maybe there wasnt as much of this because it just isnt there anymore.
hopefully i got a few thoughts out there, but when you watch white dwarf, look at it not as a skiboard video, but as a skiboard film. im going to school right now in as a design major in fine arts. i have a specific passion for photography and film, as does ben. you can see this in wd. ben and i worked really well together because after discussing with ben what he wanted, i was able to work right there with him. we were able to envision the same outcome, and i felt i accomplished that in the editing with ben and as a whole ben accompished that in the direction, production, all aspects of the film really. ben did a hell of a job.
just some thoughts.

you both did a hell of a job and the sport is indebted to you. good luck paul and ben and keep up the good work in whatever you do in the future, it's been a pleasure working with you both.

yes i know - you are right, i am in all that too, and i know what takes the editing !!! and idea and artistic things, all that is very hard to do!
and Paul, u r right too about BIG guns are away - thats the shit i said, there was no much freeride and BIIIIG airs !
BUT then, why in forum and all riders talkin that "hell ye u can ride skiboards in powder"..in the same time Paul - u r saying its for skis. (this should be in new THREAD maybe)
ah, sorry - i cant tell what i realy mean about this all, maybe some words are clear and understandable;) i hope so !
[i missed some SKIBOARDING video things - like - more parties, more funny things, more good ideas what to do on skiboards, more urban syle-in city-ok there was-but more...so on so on...But-This is Ben's skiboarding FILM not skiboarding video like Paul said, so, I AM TALKIN FOR MYSELF and for those who feel sumtin liek me ]

allz,
films cannot please all people all the time. (boomer had this problem with SB2, people said they thought there was too much lifestyle and not enough riding). what you don't like about dwarf other people may like a lot. and maybe bailey's new film will make you more happy and other people less satisfied. i think you realize this and it's good you were able to share your opinion. i guess i'm just trying to say enjoy if for what it is and maybe the next film will be more for you.
personally i'm really glad skiboarding films are still being produced by diehard riders!
haha, i guess the worst skiboarding film is the one that doesn't get made ;)
G
yes - ;) - ofcorse i am cool with that!!!
hm, i just think i would need for all opinions from all who saw a film, if i was a author!!!
if all say: thats the best - its not real, u know...G like u said, there are many opinions;)

My thoughts on white dwarf:
Since I got it, its been on continuous play on my computer... ive watched so much, i can have a play by play... Anyway, its one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Until this, my favorite vid had always been MMVM because all of the inline grinds in it. The dwarf blows it away. Almost every single grind is more than just a frontside... definately showing the progression of our sport. Every section has something in it that made me shit myself. It does a great job of showing everyone's different styles. From Jonny's street stuff, to Ethan's insanity, to Alex's amazing use of inline style, this video has a little bit of everything. Everytime i watch it i get more and more ideas of stuff to try. Everyone who hasn't got it yet should order it right now. You definately won't regret it. Its one of those movie that just makes you want to get out and ride.
on a sidenote... i didn't even realize that its like a week from christmas.... the countdown for my stupid ski resort's opening has been the big countdown this year... finally opens tomorrow and i can't even go cause finals.... schools been gettin the best of me!
The dwarf is sick, its not just skiboarding its art.
there so many things in this movie that have never been seen before including tricks. the editing is crazy go buy it you wont be dissapointed

finally i have seen the dwarf and can add some few comments.
first of all - excellent job ben! perfect footage and soundtrack selection. great picture editing recdale! (btw, did you consult with the rideres when choosing songs for their parts?) perfect laid back epos of the skb life, good chillout that eliminates any sense of real time while watching it (or is it just because of my todays mood after i woke up in a car at 1pm and all i did - went back into the bar? :D i guess no!). i guess we are on the same page of attitude and taste! ;)
on the other hand - and this is actually not about this particular movie but rather the sport in general - i'd prefer more air over rails. (probably because i'm from skiing not inline)
yeah but tumbs up, props and hops!!!

Hey RISE
Whats with the Killswitch engage? Werent they the other band playing with Damage plan when DIME got shot? Tragic shit right there. The world loses another sick guitar player and a great human being.
umm killswitch is a band that i love listening to i guess thats about it, but very possibly they were playing with damage plan at the time of the shooting. That was really fucked up
