Hi all,
I'm new to the sport of skiboarding and am looking into buying a board. I've narrowed my options to a several boards and am leaning towards the Snowjan 75cm. Being that I'm only 5'3, 105 pounds and do all of my skiing/snowboarding at the parks, I figure it is best to go with a shorter board - is there any error to my thinking?
Anyway, upon conducting research, I noticed that different boards are made of different cores. Why is that? What are the advantages and disadvantages to having a wood core? a 50/50 wood blend? a foam core? Etc...

YOU DON'T WANT FOAM CORE!!!!! If you are gonna ride in the park mostly than you need strength and wood cores are solid and strong. The blended woods like (example) birch/aspen are so you get a lighter weight without losing strength or rigidity. Look at the Mix Core 90cm they are perfect size. Going too small you lose speed/stability. For your size the Mix Core would be a good purchase I think. But do more research. Look at other boards like Canon or Snowjam too. The 90cm that all of these company's make are good. It's all in how much you want to spend. It never hurts to gain knowledge about a sport you are thinking of getting into.
Hoped this helped you. If you need more ask the guru Greco. He can answer any other questions you may have.
Hope you love skiboarding as much as we all do here....its total freedom

hey dude, there is definitely error to your thinking. Go as long as possible, especially if youre riding park (you'll need the stability) i would go with either a 99 cm board or the 110 ALP. 75 cm is way too short! trust me 99-110cm won't feel that long (skiers your size ride around 160cm and they can still turn and ride park without difficulty). as for cores i would go with wood as my first choice and a 50/50 blend as my second and foam as my third. if you get a quality board (ie. mix, and possibly canon) then they'll have a wood core...its worth the extra money, they'll give you so much more pop. as for a blended core as well as pure foam, they are usually shit and will lose most of their pop after the first season.
hope this helps,
kevin

the foam cores found in skiboards using foam are cheaper, less durable and lose their flex characteristics much quicker than wood. ask kirk about how many foam core boards he's broken.
for skiboards wood is by far the best option.

We can feed you info all day long but.....honestly I would ask Greco. He sells all these products so he can tell you about each one and answer all you questions. Kevinb has a point longer boards are great in the park and very stable but since you have never skiboarded before and you are 5' 3" you might not want to go that long....I dunno...again I would ask the guru.

for your size you shouldn't go longer than 90cm unless you're going to use releasable bindings. so if you're using non release bindings i would suggest 90cm boards by canon, mix and snowjam - all are wood core and very well made.
