We had our first real snow yesterday and got me to thinking, can't wait to strap on my skiboards. I really need to start getting some practice in and improve. Anyone going somewhere not too far away soon? If so please let me know I'd love to go out with some other skiboarders :)
I'm from michigan, but the UP is hardly near detroit.

I go up to the UP once or twice a year. Can be convinced to come more though if I am riding with other skiboarders!

well unless things change i likely can only afford the one trip, other than that i'll have to keep it somewhat local this season

What resorts do you guys ride in the U.P.? I took a trip out to Indian Head a few years ago. I could possibly make it out there sometime.
I usually ride Searchmont in Canada or nubs nob just south of the Mackinac Bridge.

i've never riden in the U.P. back when I lived there i didn't hit the slopes at all, i'll likely only be able to make it up once i'm waiting to hear back from my friend who went up there last year

Courtney as the season gets going we should try to plan a trip to Indianhead. I'm a big fan of that hill and maybe we can get some of these MI guys to jump on board.

as long as it's somewhat affordable and not when i already have plans i'm up for it. How does indianhead compare to crystal or boyne mountians?

I can't say, I've never been to either one. Here is the link to their site and the trail map. It's pretty good for the midwest.

I was at Indianhead probably 4 years ago. Their park was set up really bad but we went out there during the week and the place was dead. Not all the lifts were going though. We stayed in the places they have right on top the hill and it was pretty sweet. I don't remember how much it was price wise or anything but it'd be sweet to meet some of you guys out there.

Wow indian head has Double blacks? I may have to tap that this year.
I dunno how the ratings there are, but nubs has some double blacks and I wouldn't say they really deserve the name. Just trees in somewhat steep ungroomed.

Yea nothing in the Midwest that I've found are double blacks, heck there may be 1 or two runs I've been on around here that would qualify as a black out west, but it is what it is.

Midwest double blacks = very short and steep. commonly 2 second runs.
Funny story about indian head.. a long time ago my dad was telling me how he went skiing some where (didn't say where) and it was the first or second time he ever went skiing. The run was really mellow and then all of a sudden the end of the run just dropped off really steep. The first run my friends and I took at indian head happened to be that run.

I know exactly which one you mean. Love the end of it, don't think there is anything else around here that's that steep, even if it's for 2 seconds! haha, I actually lost a skiboard last year on that run, was carving back into the steep when woop there it went!

i'm not a big fan of straight down... i like the ones that curve back and forth through more tight sections

Mt. Bohemia in the U.P. This place looks pretty serious. It gets a lot of lake effect snow, ~270 in/year, their black runs may even be somewhat comparable to out west, and they have a lot of backcountry tree areas.

Never been there, but would love to try out my Sherpas there sometime. It looks like it's about 3 hrs from indian head.

I've been eyeing up Bohemia for a few years, just haven't gone yet. Can't get anyone else that I would normally go with to commit to go there. Looks like it would be a ton of fun, thats for sure. It's way up there on the UP, almost at the tip!
Mt. Bohemia looks pretty darn good for the Midwest.
Plus the beggining of this video made me laugh.

Too bad it's some 7 hrs from here...Hmmm.

both places are about 585 miles away from me so a little over 9 hours so for me either is really the same distance i'll have to do at least a 3 day weekend just to get one good day of skiboarding in :)

I was checking out those resorts.. couldn't help but notice on this page: http://www.skimtholly.com/slopes.aspx it says "mt holly is gay"... what?
Detroit is a good 11 hours away from me so I won't be able to make that happen.

yeah the slopes right around my house are more for an "after work quickie on the slopes" or kinda warm up at the beginning of the season. no way it would worth your time, you'd do better hitting one in the U.P. if i can get some friends to split a condo or chateau up there with me

I live in MI, and would love to try and meet up sometime. I am going to be in Colorado skiboarding this week, but will definately keep checking to see where all of you MI. people are going, Or let you know where I am heading on the weekends. I planned on going to nubbs nob, and Boyne Highlands at some point this winter. I have a few friends that go to Crystal mountain, and Caberfae as well, so that is also a possibility. Probably won't make it into the UP though.

I love it out there! I am planning another trip in January for two weeks. I think I would move out there if I wasn't tied down with so many things here in MI.
Have a great time in Cadilac, if you go!!

Anyone headed to searchmont opening weekend? (19th) I think i'm going to make an attempt to get up there friday morning/afternoon. Christmas party at school that day, but there are some things that take priority in life. ;)

I am going to be at Boyne Highlands on February 7th with my husband (snowboarder) and another couple, also snowboarders. I just wanted to mention this in case anyone else will be there. It would be cool too see another skiboarder out on the slopes. I just got back from colorado, and out there people kept asking if I cut my skis in half. LOL. I never saw any other skiboarders the whole time, but man were people checking me out on these things. I absolutely love my tanshos. Hope to see someone out there!
