I am a brand new at this sport, and am pumped to get started. I am going to Colorado for seven days on the 8th. I snowboarded last year about 3 times, and didn't really feel comfortable with it. I decided to switch to skiboarding this year, b/c it looked like alot more fun. However, I have never been on snow skis, and am just looking for some basic advice for the first time out. I have the Revel 8 Tanshos, with snowjam extreme II bindings. Thank you in advance to all who reply.

Hi!!! and Welcome aboard to the super fun and easy to learn Skiboarding!
There are some good tips here for ya at this thread:
http://www.skiboardsonline.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=6463
and pretty much all throughout the forum, just gotta read/skim through them.
You have gotten great gear too! Those Tansho's are perfect for you! My little cousin was learning to snowboard and was doing ok, but then she tried my Tansho's and REALLY LIKED it much much better!!! she did well her first time out, and you will too. Just be loose and relaxed.
Skiboards are easier to get down the slopes because of their short length and tight turning radius (you can spin 360's down the slopes!).
I'll put more later, I was in a hurry replying to ya!

Take a look at these videos - http://worldskiboard.com/articles.php?domain=&category_id=11
They're in Japanese but are still really helpful. And welcome.

Let loose and have fun. There's not much more to skibaording than that. I would recommend watching a few skiers and their techniques before you go out. Also, learn how to stop properly. Stupidly, I went from snowboarding to skiboarding and took off down the hill before learning how to stop. A few small children and a bark bench later, I learned.

My main advice would be to make sure that you take your time getting used to skiboards and developing your skills. I'm going to assume that you're going with a group, and you may feel pressured to try to keep up. Take the time to go down a few easy greens and try to get a feel for how comfortable you are on the boards. If you happen to be one of those who picks up on it quickly, great. You should be able to join your friends even if you may still be a little slower getting down the slope.
The other major point is that stopping is a very crucial skill to learn. If you can learn the hockey stop, you will be able to keep yourself under control much more easily.
Other than that, just go out there and enjoy yourself. Don't worry about what anyone else on the hill is doing. Just do your own thing and have fun. That's what skiboarding is all about.

New Chick:
Do you ice skate or rollerblade? With the obvious exception of the crossover turn, those skills will transfer much better to skiboarding than skiing, you might practice up on skates a bit before your trip. Crazyboy-1 makes a great point worth repeating: work on that hockey stop! If you can stop reliably, anywhere & anytime, you'll be a lot more comfortable on the snow.
A lesson at a local resort, if you can find a ski instructor who is agreeable re: skiboards (I know of at least one at our small local resort) would be a major plus before your Colorado trip.
Good luck! You are off to a good start with top notch gear. I think you'll have a blast and really enjoy skiboarding!

Yes I ice skate a few times a year, and rollerblade all the time when the whether is good. I totally rocked when it came to carving and the hockey stop turned out to be pretty easy to learn. I had soo much fun last week!! I have never had that much fun in the snow before. I am going back for two weeks in January, so I will get to work on some more of my skills then. Can't wait!! Thanks for your advise.
