well with the recent talks about the x-games and keeping skiboarding underground it made me realize something. that all the people who want skiboarding to be back in the x-games. all they want is televised skiboarding events. and the people who dont want it in the x-games. all they want is for skboarding not to become like snowboarding.
well i thought of a way to do both. if any one is as much as a paintball fanatic as me you should know of pigtv.net. pigtv.net is in a nut shell is streaming paintball tournys. well i thought it worked for them it should work for us.
hence skiboard tv its a way for us to watch skiboarding with out selling out.
heres how pigtv.net does it:
they stream it using real player
there is about 10 min intervals having commercials in between
the total run time is usually about 30min (since its streaming there is little load time)
ok just so you know i have no knowledge of html or anything having to do with the internet and writing programs or pages.
well in the end this is just an idea

great idea but it boils down to content. there isn't much skiboarding video to stream.

yeah this is where is comes down to fetting comps or stuff like rail jams so it might take some time to get stuff up but like you said it all boils down to content and that means we gotta start getting content.

the few events happening aren't usually full of riders...only a handful and whatever footage is filmed during those events will probably be used for a forthcoming DVD production.
there just isn't enough riders and events to feed such a project.
interesting idea but too small scene.

I totally agree there's not a wide enough audience yet to make this a profitable commercial endeavor. It sounds like the paintball events make the costs back with the advertising between broadcasts. There may be something here though. Take for example the event in Italy (or even Mountain Creek). Many of us cannot make it but would love to see the events. Since we're not talking about that many end users, the web casting system would not need to be that elaborate and could possibly be run from one laptop. As long as you could find a high speed line somewhere at the mountain that you can pipe into (or even go with a satellite feed), the day’s events could be streamed from cameras at key spots. Hook up an audio feed to the casting system and you can do commentary as well. The cameras are still capturing the footage that can be used for DVD release later, but if looped through a web cast system, the footage could be accessed as it happens as well. There are also wireless transmission options, so you could set up a few cameras at key places and capture and transmit to the casting system without wiring directly to the broadcast machine. You could probably rig a wireless transmitter with a car or marine battery and be able to ride alongside the competitor too.
Of course none of this is free, but you could MacGyver a lot of the equipment from stuff many people already have. I’d imagine enough camera’s would probably be running to create a DVD just of the Italy event. Maybe funds could be raised from people to watch the web cast and then later provide them with a DVD copy as part of the price to watch the cast.

I believe they already have footage posted for download and Greco got the Mt Snow stuff up pretty quickly. Northern VT isn't known for its high speed internet access, so unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to really check stuff out, but I know it's there. It sounded like you were looking for a live or almost live experience. Just saying technically it is not that hard to do.
