Today was my final day of college comp. I received my final grades and all the fun stuff like the hundreds of dead trees that come with the grades...Well it turns out that your grade is not directly proportional to the amount of time you put into working on it.
I wrote 4 essays this semester and 1 research paper. On all of the essays I put in no more than 3 hours of work and got no less than an A-. Okay, that's great but how about the research paper? I completely failed it...most of the parts:
Format and Abstract=B
Purpose and organization=D-
Development=C-
Audience and Style=C-
Mechanics=C
Documentation=F(exactly how it was writtin on the paper)
References=D-
Total=F
Well this is what I get for putting too much effort into learning a writing style that will never be useful in any normal day situations. Let me just say that the creator of APA needs to be killed brutally resurrected and killed in an even more brutal manner. I just finally learned MLA last year and for me to learn APA in two weeks was impossible. I spent over 40 hours working on this paper and still got an F...I seriously was laughing my ass of after I walked out of the class, actually I was laughing hysterically in class because I knew the sear irony that I put way too much time in on this paper and did this. But the great thing about it is my final grade is a high C. This counted for 20% of our overall grade and I could give a shit less because I am no longer in that class...
Happy last day of the semester other college students!!!

That's the exact same reason I quit 4 year school and went to a tech school instead. I couldn't stand wasting my time writing papers about something that would essentially never apply to my life.
I figured I'd much rather get school over with quickly, get into the work force and gain knowledge and experience through the hands on approach.
More power to you for sticking it out and being able to laugh those sorts of things off. I couldn't. Good luck though with the rest of your college days.

I'm pretty sure we learned MLA. Never had to touch APA.. or was it the other way around? I don't even remember. If I went to write another research paper I'd have to look up the details on how to reference things correctly but I still think it helped to learn it the first time around.

Plenty of Apps. that would have done the citation for you in with APA or MLA without you learning either.

easybib.com did all my citations for reasearch papers in HS and first year of college. now im in my classes for my majior and i rarely have write anything longer than a sentance or two. however i eill do math/physics type problems that take 2+ pages of work. fun fun fun!!!
Bad luck mate. I always used to great in exams, but was lousy at any kind of project work. Seemed like the more hours I was forced to put in, the more lacklustre the finished product.
Nevertheless, you passed the course by the sounds of it (I don't know too much about how college grades/courses work over there). So at the end of the day, you got the job done and its over - nice one.

I can't stand sites like that...they only give a general citation, nothing specific, and they never offer too many formats. Refworks is the only one I trust enough to use, and I have access to it through my university.
I know college and university courses are different, so maybe sites like that work fine for college...but when you need something more in depth, refworks (if you have access) is the way to go. Otherwise, pick up a small style book either from the library, or the can be bought cheap at a book store.
You may lose marks on everything else, but you should never lose grades on referencing.

you can't really blame that on just the citation style....i mean its not like you did too good on the other stuff either. I mean for spending 40 hours on it....you should have had alot better ideas/organization, development and what not.
I guess i dont think about it, writing has always come really easy to me and i can throw down A papers in a few hours tops.
