I made it out to Camelback today 12-19
While they only had 5 (more like 2 and 1/4 of the terrain park) trails open it was more than enough to get me started.
I got there as soon as they opened 8am so I was able to go round robin without any waiting whatsoever up until about 10am.
My legs were beat so I stopped for something to drink and to call the wife (she's due to have our 3rd son on January 3rd so this trip was a little sketchy as she could pop any day now and I live a good 2.25 hours away from Camelback).
While I still pretty much suck, I was able to nail down quite a few 360's (no not in the air....lol). I also attempted the ramp they had there twice (didn't land either lame ass attempt either) basically just got laughed at by the snowboarders which sucked. Then again how many 300# mofo's you see even attempting to go skiing let alone trying a ramp, so I got nuttin to be ashamed about (except for maybe the fact that I still continue to have a hard time leaving the poles at home)
This was also my first time trying out the pair of 01 Mike Nick pro's that I picked up over the off season. I found them to be rather stiff but the handled great. At first it seemed like I was without tips or tails as it seemed like I was using just the center of the boards. Overall they are actually pretty decent and carved great. It was fog central there and you couldn't see a damn thing. I was however extremely glad that I picked up a helmet this offseason as some jackut decieded to pull the lift bar down on me and bonked me in the back of the head. So the lack of a concussion and me being arrested for throwing some douche off the lift was worth the cost of the helmet....lol
I'm stoked that I nailed down the 360 as I could only do the 180 last season and had to ride fakie for a little bit until I could turn back around....lol Now I just need to learn how to land a jump.
They had two rails there (one big ass rainbow rail that I wasn't going anywhere near, and another that I passed on as I figured it would probably be in my best interest to learn how to land a jump first.) Hopefully by the end of the season, I'll have dropped the poles (need them as skating just wears my legs out to death) and I can land a jump or three...
all in all that's the end of this chapter and it was a good day.
