Quick tech question for anyone who feels like answering. I've got a brand new pair of boards that haven't so much as touched snow yet. I'm going on a trip on the 9th and since I've never owned a brand new piece of sliding equipment, would you recommend taking them in and having them waxed and sharpened, or are they good to go right out of the factory?

They don't need to be sharpened but you should probly get them hot waxed. The factory doesn't put on much hot wax at all.

Bear in mind that each time you have the edges or base sharpened/ground, it removes material and takes away a little of the life of the board. Hot waxing is a big plus though, because, in theory, each time you hot wax the bases, the wax penetrates a little further, and lasts a little longer. Most bases reach their best after about 5-6 hot waxings. Always hot wax them at the END of the season when you put them away, as this allows the natural oils in the wax to penetrate deep into the base during the summer months, and also stops the bases drying out and oxidising.
