I went to REI.com and i found these Performa 7.0 boots from last year. I'm planning on going over there to see if i can try them on but what do you guys think? I've heard that the Performa boots are pretty good for skiboarding. Other than that it's basically a lot about flex and an upright stance. Of course feeling comfortable is important also.

http://www.rei.com/product/47586908.htm?

Anyway if anyone has used these or know anything i'd appreciate some feedback. Also what are the differences from this years and last years? Is there a major difference between this years and last years boots other than the cosmetics?

Thanks.

I don't have Performa 7.0 but I do own and ride Performa 6.0. My guess is the Performa 7.0 probably has more features than the 6.

6.0 is an awesome boot. Very comfortable fit, nice pad in the shins, easy to use walk/ride dial, and a snap to get into. Like a nice REI 720 glove. I got those after trying EVERY boot in the store. Yes, every. I had a pair of Kneissl Rails before and those just didn't work out. Somehow, the calf section was so tight it wouldn't allow my heel to touch down, and the boot was very wobbly and unstable. I think it had more to do with the engineering of the boot rather than it being a soft boot, because the form of the boot was the problem, not the material.

Anyway, good luck, and best advice is to TRY EVERY BOOT IN THE STORE!

I picked up those boots tonight. They are comfy and a lot better than any rental boots i've worn. I figure you can't really go wrong for just $150. They are last years model but i've been told that not much has changed.

On a side note i had this thought in my mind that Mammoth Mountain would stop renting out skiboards/snowblades this year for some reason. Anyway it was kind of bugging me so i decided to call them to make sure. Sure enough the guy told me they had stopped renting them out because they weren't popular. I've never seen many skiboarders out there ever anyway. I always feel like i'm the only one.

It's not that big of a deal though cause there's a store called Footloose that's in town and they still rent them out. It's a little out of the way but at least all hope isn't lost.

Hopefully next season i'll be able to buy some boards.

Mammoth *rented* snowblades?

Here's a question: why is it that almost every mountain that rents, rents a Saloman or other 8-hole product? Yes, they're cheap, but I'm almost sure you can get very close to the price of Snowblades or Fischers with a 75 or even a 90cm board. And they may even last longer too!

Why aren't the skiboard manufacturers *pushing* mountains to *rent* some of their stock? It may sound like they're giving boards away, but in the long run, people will *enjoy* riding quality boards and they'll remember the names-there's not many manufacturers out there. I'm not asking for a company to give away 100 ALP's to rent (that would be nice!) but perhaps one or two would do just fine-the sport will grow a lot faster.

Think about how many people might've been turned off to skiboards because they rented a set of worn-down-round-edged snowblades. They'll think they can't do much on them, because its almost true. Pretty much the only thing you can do with round-edged-skinny skiboards is go straight down the mountain.

Rental is part of a mountain's income, and one of the best ways to promote a sport. Denying the rental of quality skiboards cripples the sport.

Making rentals available is sooooooo the way to grow the sport. Trouble is, shops can charge more to rent skis, so they go for max income.

Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort starting renting Line Flys. I know the owner and he was approached by Line who practicaly gave them away as a means of generating future customers. Perhaps some of us should reconsider our stance on Line.

7 Springs rents Head skiboards. That sure doesn't make me like head any greater.

I go to mammoth almost every year and I didnt even know they rented anything even remotely close to skiboards. The rental situation for boards is lame...my local ski shop rents these old ass dynastar orange and yellow things. I mean these things are dinosaurs and they rent them as "skiboards". I about fell over laughing the first time I saw them. You can rent boards online but its kind of expensive I think.

Go to Footloose. It's in town and they are renting skiboards. I don't know what kind though.
