I happened to be thinking today...This winter really blows. It's been warm as hell. A co-worker went to Mount Snow this past Sunday, which is where I'm going this coming Sunday. I was psyched to go...until I asked: "So how was Mount Snow?" He said that the entire mountain was nothing but a sheet of ice with huge grass spots all over the place. Wonderful, huh? This time of year, just about every mountain in New England should have all their trails open with decent snow, even if it is manmade.

Kinda depressing too, now that I finally have the time and money to hit the hills on a somewhat regular basis. And especially so since I'm so amped about riding. So does anyone know if it's supposed to cool back down this winter so we can look forward to some nice days? Or is it going to be spring conditions all winter?

Jay Peak is known for more snow than any mountain on the East and even some in the West. Right now it’s so bad up here you'd could ice skate to the general store. It was 20 and raining yesterday. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!?! The forecast up here is for cooler weather but still mixed precipitation. They went from 70 plus trails to maybe 30 and the woods are a death trap right now. GOOD TIMES!

Lucky. Theres only been one day so far here where there was even enough snow to hit urban rails... and it had all melted by noon that day.

hi, i'm new here... i got out once to 7 springs and it was almost too cold and a white out.. ever since then, its been in 50's and rain and i havent been back. i see 60's for later this week....

i just moved to pittsburgh.. how many others ride at 7 springs?

what about boyce park? anyone been there before? sounds really small, but it is 2 miles from where i live now, so i thought about checking it out.. 9 dollar lift tickets during the week.

Just hit 7 springs on the 29th and 30th...

Wasn't great. But wasn't as bad as I'm sure it is now.

It was 74 here in Virginia Beach...Not too untypical ...but nevertheless...it sucks.

I'm glad I got in the little bit I did. Hopefully the temps will be back down come th end of the month...planning for Snowshoe for the end of January.

yea 7 springs is def melting away. 15 trails/slopes open today i saw on the snow report. i went to boyce park once last year, couldnt believe how small that HILL was. it would make a nice sled riding hill haha. they do have some nice kickers and stuff in the park, no rails tho.

kirk- did you get thet PM i sent you?

Wow...Apparently this forum is magic or something. I bitch about the crappy winter weather, and we get clobbered with a ton of snow and it looks like the temps are going to take a turn in the proper direction! Awesome! Depending on whether they still expect a bunch of ice and crap in the middle of the day, I'm going to head out to Mount Southinton again. And it looks like my trip to Mount Snow might just not suck afterall!

i predict.. and this is an educated prediction, because i am finally going to put my worthless geography degree to use... that rain and warm weather in the winter.. can only mean snow and cold weather in the summer.. don't argue with me.. it's science

no no no all wrong. normally a warm beginning of winter normally means that we will be hit hard toward the mid to end of the winter season. trust me this is from expierence my dad works the snow and it always happens this way, and he always has to work overtime and wont be home for weeks at a time because of the amount of snow we get in winters like this.

same thing happend blizzard of 93 and 96 and 99
