Alright. I'm finally back at my apartment after my Mount Snow trip. I ended up crashing at my parents' house so I could be sure that I'd wake up in time for work today. Anyway...

The conditions were great. I don't know if anyone else was up there on Sunday when I was, but the weather was beautiful and the snow was as fresh as it gets. Unfortunately, a great deal of it was ungroomed from the previous day, but it was an experience nonetheless. It was a real challenge negotiating extremely bumpy terrain, and I have to wonder if that's due to the fact that my non-wood cores are so much less flexible that it would make a big difference. I'll just go through some highlights of the trip:

1) Met a guy on skiboards on the lift. In talking to him, I found out he was a snowboarder whose board was broken, so he rented a pair of Snowblades from the mountain. He said he was not only enjoying himself, but gave skiiers and skiboarders a lot more credit than he did before!

2) I ventured into the terrain park several times. And I have to say I was a little less than impressed with my performance there. The only features I hit were these two big tabletops. I couldn't work up the nut to hit them at a high speed to clear it, so I never got much air, and always landed on top of the jump. And I ended up falling on 2 out of 10 attempts. I'm gonna need some help on that...

3) Late in the day, ate it HARD! Long story short: Late in the day, flat light, torn up trail. Right foot hit bump I couldn't see, got kicked up, tip nosedived into the ground. I was going pretty fast...Flew forward, landed on left shoulder and side of face. Rolled, slid down the hill on my back for a good 15 feet headfirst...Ouch. End result: Mouthful of snow, goatee caked with ice for the next two hours, sore the next day.

4) When I went down to the lodge for lunch, I discovered that snow had caked up and formed into ice inside of the plastic clip for my right leash. Couldn't get the damn thing to unsnap. Spent ten minutes trying to unbuckle the stupid thing...

5) Had some ditzy snowboarder chick on the lift ask me: "Hey...Aren't those those short skis?" Uhh...yeah. They're short, and very ski-like. Thus making them "those short skis". Oh, just FYI...they're SKIBOARDS dumbass!

6) Had a skiier in the lift line ask in a mocking, condescending tone: "Hey. What happened to the rest of your skis?" followed by laughing at me. He recieved my skull drilling stare of DEATH and a few moments of very awkward silence. I rode as a single on that lift ride.

7) Was in the terrain park again, so obviously on approach to hit the tabletop that I might as well have had a neon sign on my back. Heard someone moving very quickly behind me and yelling: "Lookout! On jump! On jump! On jump!" and then got blazed by by a snowboarder who cut me off. And they say we have no manners in the park? I even waited my turn with the pack of sitting snowboarders above the jump until they said: "Your turn, dude."

Well...those are the major highlights. But overall, I got a GREAT day of riding in. It would've been more fun if I'd had someone to ride with instead of being by myself all day...but oh well. Lotta runs, challenging conditions, learned a lot. Can't wait to do it all over again!

thanks for writing such a detailed description of your experience. i could relate to a lot of what you wrote.

if you really want to learn and get better the single most important thing you can do is come to our mountain creek event. there is going to be a concentration of skiboard talent in one place the likes of which haven't been seen since the uss finals in 2000. and believe me once people see adam, ben, bailey, ethan, jonny, alex, kirk, etc... ride they won't have any derogatory comments to make, they blow minds!
